Forums - Gaming - Is the switch going to have a bigger launch than the PS4? And Zelda vs Horizon...

Zelda and Horizon are nothing alike based on what I've played of both so far. Horizon has more in common with Rise of the Tomb Raider.

I don't really understand why you are drawing comparisons between Zelda and Horizon along with drawing conclusions about Zelda before you've played the game. Why not enjoy both games instead of being hung up by an arbitrary metascore and theories that reviewers were blinded by nostalgia?

launch aligned, not a chance in hell

Apparently people are not interested in useful comparisons, so the useless and ridiculous "Switch WW against PS4 in the US" will do ^^.

It seems no one is allowed to like both on this site. Had that issue since E3.

Its interesting how some people never bring up points reduction for technical issues when it is a game they like. I mean, by this logic, the last of us for example, shouldn't have gotten a 95 for ps3 cause it has worse technical issues than zelda does. At least with zelda, you do have it on portable which keeps it locked at 30fps for majority of the time, only when in docked mode does the issues appear.

Now I am all up for points reduction due to technical difficulties but what I am not up for is when people do it for some games and not others. Dishonored 2 performed terribly across the board yet reviewers gave it a high rating ignoring its technical issues for the post part. So while I agree that games should have a score reduction when they launch with technical issues, every game including the Last of Us and etc which have technical issues should gets points reduced and not just Zelda.

I work at a major electronics retailer that doesn't do pre-orders, so we still deal with old school "first come first served" lines. We sold through 112 Switches, and less than half of the line got one (didn't count everyone, but I'd say we powered through maybe 40% of the line before we ran out).

We ran out of our 63 copies of Breath of the Wild after the first 63 Switches sold; that is a 100% attach rate that got broken not by disinterest, but stock issues. The remainder of the ones who got Switches purchased prepaid eshop cards (I wonder why), and a dismissive number of people purchased other games.

Zelda sold exceedingly well. It took a full day to run out of 25 copies of Horizon, but only an hour to burn more than twice that number of BotW. The 15 Wii U copies we had were gone before 1pm.

The Switch launch, like most high profile console launches, was a massive success.

That seems pretty obvious given it's a console launch, and Zelda the top if not only game to buy for a majority of people who would be ligning up on day 0.

Maybe it's the other way around. If there wasn't a game like Zelda on launch people wouldn't be lining up to buy the Switch on day 1.

There are always people who line up for console launches.

Though I've never seen someone buying a console on launch without buying any game. If someone buys a console it's beacuse there's a game experience they'll eventually want to play on it. And since, as you stated, BOTW is the only really interesting game on day 1 it's only natural to expect it's having an impact on Switch launch sales.
