I had to move my wifi modem today as the cable it was connected to is compromised screwing it up more and more frequently. So now I have wifi reception for Switch in my game room, yet no longer in the living room. The WiiU sitting next to it (which has weak reception itself) still shows 2 bars, Switch zero, won't connect. Every other device works (my laptop is still at 80% signal strength) Wifi reception in the Switch really sucks. Perhaps the dock is made of some wifi blocking material...

I forgot about the wrist straps, left them in the box since launch. That explains why those SL/SR buttons are so hard to press! Hidden inside.

I don't think your wifi problems are switch related, at least not a wide ranging issue. I think you have something else going on in your environment, settings etc.

Just took the Switch out of the dock, put it close to my laptop for comparison. I did connect in this spot, my laptop shows 4/5 bars signal strength, Switch shows zero.

Switch next to my laptop gets 8.2 mbps down/ 4.6 mbps up, Laptop gets 25 mbps down / 2.3 mbps up.
Switch next to my wifi modem gets 36.5 mbps down / 8 mbps up, Laptop 47.2 mbps down/ 11 mbps up.
Switch nest to to tv docked gets 4.3 mbps down / 2 mbps up, Laptop 25 mbps down / 1.3 mbps up.

Looks like Switch has a slightly better transmitter than my laptop, yet a far worse receiver. It did stay connected this time in the dock, yet for downloads put it next to the modem!

Yeah if those scratches are like how the 3DS was supposed to "scratch", then I'm pretty sure that's just clumsiness. It's just not true, been using my 3DS regularly since 2011 without any protection whatsoever and there's not a single mark on it. Not a spec of damage whatsoever. Really, if you're damaging it, I'm sorry, you're doing it wrong. Those protectors are a waste of money, I'm pretty confident if I get the system I'd be perfectly fine without them.

bolded parts, don't know why but I imagined you were talking about condoms and wondered how many kids you had floating around.

Lol. I can why this sounds weird. XD

Well I guess those work to prevent scratching as well.

I run everything in my house on wifi.

  • 4 laptops
  • 1 PC
  • 4 Chromecast devices
  • Home Security (live view, not the monitoring itself)
  • Amazon Fire TV (for 100% of my video entertainment, SlingTV, etc)
  • Xbox One
  • Wii U
  • 2 Nintendo Switches
I do have 3 Google Wifi devices blanketing my home and a 75Gbit speed cable provider (could do 100, but have yet to see why I need to).
I have full bars anywhere in my home and at work (I take it to work sometimes). Though I haven't done any sort of testing of its speed. Maybe I'll check that out tomorrow.
So far, I haven't seen any connection issues with the Switch, granted I guess I won't really know until MK8D... though I guess I may buy some other online capable game here soon as my boys have both finished Zelda. They will likely want something else that they can spend their money on. I'm good with Zelda for some time yet.
From your laptop comparison and my own personal, 2 switch datapoint, I still think it has to be related to your environment/router/settings/etc.

Not enough money for me to buy one yet. I think they should fix that and give me one with a pro controller.

Imagine a Smash deluxe bundle. Switch+pro controller+ sm4sh deluxe for 400. I'd happily buy it.

A long one ago, I had issues with my 3DS connecting to the internet. It kept disconnecting. I wound up buying a Netgear router and never had in issue, again. In my gameroom alone, there's a smart TV, laptop, Vita, 3DS, PC, and five consoles not including the Switch. No connection issues.

- The Joy-Con grips are hard to remove even if you put them in correctly. A friend of mine and me tried them and were afraid to break the Joy-Con by using too much force and ended up searching the web for a solution. Turns out you just have to pull harder, but it was still scary.

- The screen is a bit too small to play Bomberman comfortably in tabletop mode. It's straining on the eyes after a while.

- My TV randomly didn't receive a signal from the Switch when I docked it. Didn't happen again after the first day but I guess my TV got confused by the Switch

Other than that, I'm happy! "Scratchgate" was a clear case of fear-mongering (apparently not a single Switch owner on vgchartz has scratches on their screen), as was some other stuff. I think my left joy-con became unresponsive once but it I'm not exactly sure. I want to mention that the screen is really good! Can easily keep up with my PS Vita and has better colors than my iPhone. It's a great console so far and people are impressed by the docking and tabletop modes.

I have a faulty left joy-con. The signal is so bad that even if sitting just 1 meter from the console in docked mode, it sometimes loses signal. I had to buy a pro controller to be able to play zelda on the tv.

No issues in handheld mode. I contacted the national Nintendo distributor and they said the problem only affects some joy-cons, and they'll of course replace it if i return it to the store I bought it.

I haven't done it yet as I would have to be without joy-cons for a few days = no handheld mode, but I'll probably do it this week.

Apart from that, I haven't had any technical problems. I am actually surprised at how slick the system is, going in and out of sleep mode is instant, so it's really easy to to pick-up and play.

My impression of Switch is probably a bit affected by the fact that BotW is by far the best game I have ever played. I daydream about it at work, and I stay up late every night to play.

No issues just yet. Perhaps when I play arms I can test out the motion controls better.

So.. after more than a week of testing the device..

I used it in dock mode and handheld mode. No scratches found. I took it with me and played somewhere else.
No sync issues or any stuff like that. I didn't even take precautions because of it, I just played the games like I normally would.

The only downside I had was that the battery ran out pretty fast (playing too much).
But I could recharge it while playing. Having the USB-C on the lower end of the console instead of having one on top was kinda annoying :/
