Wait, it's just been today for you? It seems like it's been shoddy for years to me.

Some really good scores and my trusted reviewers have enjoyed it, so I'll probably end up picking this up to blow the dust off my PS4.

Expect it to settle around 86-87
Games seem to always drop a point or two by the end, after the big intial wave of reviews come in.
There's always a couple of asshole sites that drop unwarranted mediocre reviews on good games.
That said, Horizon isn't for me, anyway.

People always get riled up whenever there is an outlier review, especially for an exclusive, but alot of the time it's legit. If it was Quarter to Three that gave it a 50 I could see people bitching, because Quarter to Three are well known trolls, but USGamer is a legit site that has been doing good reviews for a long time. And Chris Carter over at Destructoid is my favorite critic, his scores are almost always within 5 points of my own, and he's the only critic I know that gave certain games I loved that most critics didn't like, a fair shake. |
So long story short outta over 60 reviews the one with one of the lowest scores is the only one that matters to you and everyone else that doesn't agree with what you agree with on said review(evn though they also have legitimate reasons to dispute it) is throwing a tantrum right? Ok... got it. Extremely "shocking".
What I find strange though, is how people like you and a few others will ignore 50+ gleaming reviews and focus on the the odd two or three sub par ones and act ike all the others don't exist. Or find a way to take the one oe two bad things out of 15 great things said about a game and act like those suddenly are the worst things in the world. Yet love the very same things in another game that you are at least interested in.
Anyways, what do I know... these are all opinions anyways ( even the reviews) we are ALL allowed to agree or disagree with them.

No Man's Sky AND The Order?!! oh my...

I can tell you right now that 90s aren't going to do it.
As of the time of this post, Horizon's Metacritic average is 88.71621622 with 74 scores in. To put that in perspective, Horizon would need 23 additional reviews with a score of "90" just to get back to an 89 average (and that's assuming no scores below a 90 come in). It would take a ridiculous number of 90 scores, over 200 new reviews with a 90, to reach a 90 MC average.
95s are better, but still pretty unrealistic. Horizon would need 19 95s (with no sub 90 scores) to reach 90 average on Metacritic.
An influx of 100s would make this a possibility; if 10 perfect scores came in (again, with no sub 90s), that would push Horizon over the 90 average threshold.
Not great odds any way you slice it. Best chance is for a bunch of late 95+s (consisting of a substantial amount of 100s), and no scores below 90. At this point, any review that doesn't contain an amazing score, even something like a low 80, would basically be the icing on the "not a 90" cake.
