Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Addresses Lack of Switch Backwards Compatibility

Well, it's not a secret that Nintendo hates backwards compatibility.

This doesn't seem like a well thought out post. Their portables usually have BC and their last two home consoles had BC.

I hope extra Joycon will remedy that failing.

That would be clever of them. Also maybe one with a proper D-pad.

Milk me dry.
1, 2 Switch predicted this.

Couldn't you just make a USB 3.0 cartridge adapter? One you could either leave in the dock and pop your carts in there?

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

It's inevitable that backwards compatibility will be lost from time to time as generations advance. Changes in architecture are often necessary. I don't have a problem with this.

If by "You" you mean Nintendo, then sure. If the Switch could software-emulate the ds/3ds they could create an accessory that let's the Switch read the cartridges.

Didn't think so

will probably have GBA VC and remaster/port the other big Wii U games (mainly Smash)

I really hope you are joking with this right?

Well considering that only 2 of their 7! home consoles have BC I'd say that is the case. I think with handhelds it's 2/5.

Doesn't sound to me like a company that necessarily embraces BC.

Handhelds:
Game boy Colour - Played Game Boy games
GBA - Played Game Boy and Game Boy colour games
DS and DS lite - Played GBA games
3DS - Played DS games and DSi software

N3DS - Played 3DS games and N3DS exclusive games
DSi - Played DS games and DSi software

Some of the consoles could be used to play handheld games via adaptors (Gamecube and Super Nintendo).

And out goes any possibility to transfer eShop content.

Yes please. Let me use my Wii U controllers. I have zero interest in HD rumble, the ability to scan in Amiibos, or whatever else they added that makes it cost $70,

Would be nice if you could use the WiiU pro on Switch, but they'll force you to spend money on the new pro for that HD rumble and record button (maybe you can use the power button for that last one).

Let's check the last 4 consecutive major Nintendo hardware releases:

2004 - DS released (backwards compatible)

2006 - Wii released (backward compatible)

2011 - 3DS released (backwards compatible)

2012 - WiiU released (backwards compatible)

So, the Switch will be the first major device launched by Nintendo in the last 13 years to not feature backwards compatibility.  Yeah, they hate backwards compatibility all right.  Oh wait, I forgot who's post I was responding to.  You're trolling again as usual.
