Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch Will Not Support a Web Browser at launch

I keep seeing this. The answer is ME.

I have a TV (with a web browser app) with a PC with wireless keyboard connected to it, a $700 smart phone, a $300 tablet, and every 7th and 8th gen console. The WiiU browser is still my most used--but it's starting to suck. It's having trouble loading certain pages, nowadays. PS4 and XB1 browsers are pretty capable but clunky to use.

I was REALLY looking forward to Nintendo's version. And it will have one eventually. Even back in the Wii days, I used it way more than PS3's (and Xbox 360 didn't even have one until until the gen as almost over).

If you're not using your TV for the browser, the tablet itself is pretty useless, as you already have similar devices to browse the web. If you have it on the TV, it's going to be clunky to use anyway because you're not using the touch screen.

I was going to mention Joycon but Hynad beat me to it. Also, it's not just that. It's the interface. I actually liked how PS3 worked (though Wii was easier). Things got overly complicated in my opinion with the jump to PS4. I think Nintendo will keep it simple--but I just don't know.

I never liked Xbox's cumbersome setup but, for whatever reason, they work on more sites.

You know, it took me until last year to figure out you can simply swap between a browser page and current game by double tapping the ps button. That makes it so much easier when you're stuck. A bit too easy maybe...

I hated the ps3 browser, 75% chance it would crash or lock up the console every time I used it. Dragging the pointer over a page was agonizingly slow as well. The ps4 browser is miles better, although still doesn't support a whole lot. It also crashes occasionally though never to the point I need to pull the power cord to reset the console as with the ps3.

I wonder why the ps4 never got patched to use the DS4's track pad in the browser. Or maybe it does and it's another feature I haven't found yet :s I guess not

That's the worst thing about console browsers. They get outdated fast, even with updates. I had similar experiences later on.

Ouya has track pad support. It's pretty horrible. Maybe Sony could do it right.

Such a panoply of opinion we have here. This isn't that big a deal to me ( still sucks tho ) , but I consider the Switch smartphone voice-chat '"solution" to be video game ass-cancer. There are people on this thread who have basically the exact opposite opinion. Oh what a world!

Regardless, an app of this nature will almost certainly not be included, anyone requiring to login via a webportal to access the internet will have to wait until a browser is added.

This does suck for those who need a web browser. But I suppose you could use bluetooth tethering and enter the internet via smartphone. I havn't tried that out, but theoritically it should work.

You can tether mobile-data so you could connect Switch that way, I didn't think you could tether a phones Wifi connection to another device though.

That's a non issue. The Joy-Con is said to have IR pointer capabilities, just like the Wiimote.

Yeah, the Wii browser was ok to use and the joycon has a camera in it, that could be used as a pointer. But I'm still not convinced, the tablet's more handy anyway.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Nintendo trying to keep kids away from porn. Ahh how sad.

It shouldn't be so difficult to port Firefox to the Switch considering it is using a standard ARM mobile chip.

It just won't be there at launch guys... 3DS and Xbox One didn't have one at launch either.

Bullshit it had the Internet Explorer at launch.

http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/15/5109084/xbox-one-how-internet-explorer-works

"Internet Explorer will be one of numerous apps available on Xbox One at launch, Nov. 22."

I'd rather have no Internet than use Internet Explorer

They'll add it later. It's probably not such a big deal. I mean, most of the potential owners will have a phone from which they'll search the internet, especially when they're on the street. And I'm sure almost all the buyers have desktop/laptops/tablets at home.

I don't mean to add more speculation, but they should really add the online service later into the Switch, and not thru the phone.
