Oh shit! Now were talking!
Pocky Lover Boy!

Epic Games has to be setup forever for all of the licensing and royalty money they get from Unreal.

That's.....that's not what skills mean. That's also a 800+ sized team. |
So skills just mean they can now make a game using the Unreal engine? Indie developers can do that...
It could mean faster development times, working with a standard engine engine of building a new one or upgrading an older 1. It could also mean they'd be more able to help 3rd parties port games to the Switch.
I wonder if -should they use Unreal 4 for games like Metroid and even Mario- they would also use it for cell shaded games like breath of the wild. I know Unreal 3 was used for cell-shaded games, but I'd imagine Nintendo's proprietary engines would be better suited for those games.
It should be easy for Nintendo to go 3rd party then.

that would explain why mario odyssey looks like one of this soulless "mario is unreal" videos

Pretty sure Mario Odyssey is.

This just sets up Nintendo's internal teams to utilize what they've learned with Unreal and Unity and effectively develop games whether in house games or helping with third parties or indies. That way, they don't just have the knowledge of their own engines. Versatility will be key in creating content efficiently. They have more options to operate. It's doesn't sound like a bad thing. This can help save costs and time in development.
Kinda think like The Beatles utilizing a variety of music within their studio to create a variety of music with the songs they write. From orchestra to synthesizer to basic rock band play to even instruments like the sitar. That's why albums like Revolver and Sgt. Pepper are so well revered, their variety and tone in music to go along with the lyrics presented to them.

How will helping third parties port their games help with Nintendos development time?

Seriously? Do you not understand what skill means? I'm sure you can take a paintbrush to a canvas but do you have the skill to pain the Mona Lisa? |
I could just say I can paint the Mona Lisa, but wouldnt you rather I proved I could do it?
