This just sets up Nintendo's internal teams to utilize what they've learned with Unreal and Unity and effectively develop games whether in house games or helping with third parties or indies. That way, they don't just have the knowledge of their own engines. Versatility will be key in creating content efficiently. They have more options to operate. It's doesn't sound like a bad thing. This can help save costs and time in development.

Kinda think like The Beatles utilizing a variety of music within their studio to create a variety of music with the songs they write. From orchestra to synthesizer to basic rock band play to even instruments like the sitar. That's why albums like Revolver and Sgt. Pepper are so well revered, their variety and tone in music to go along with the lyrics presented to them.
