I think With the Release of Wii fit, we are about to see some more unprecedented sales for the wii till the year end. It comes out here in Europe this month, and i have seen little trickles of advertising coming, through, i can tell this is gonna be a big advertising campaign, truth is i have seen a lot Wii commercials shown on Tv lately

I love how somehow PS3 is competition for the Wii. Wii sales are based on supply, and if it has the supply, I think it's safe to say the Wii will destroy the PS3.

Wii will BURY the PS3 this holiday.

It will be Wii. I don't even need to know what new games are coming up for the holiday rush. Every Wii produced will fly off of the shelf just like it has been doing since launch. Even if Nintendo just sells the same number as last holiday season, PS3 won't even come close. I expect an increase in production from Nintendo this year, and a holiday season better than last in proportion to the size of the production increase.

Q1 = January - March 

PS3 sales in Q1 2008 are way up in the Americas, essentially impossible to compare in Europe (launch was too late in the quarter), and down about 5% in Japan from Q1 2007.  My guess is that total PS3 holiday sales in 2008 will be 50% higher than 2007 holiday sales.

Wii is up slightly in Japan from Q1 07' to Q1 08', it is up ~35% so from Q1 07' to Q1 08' in the Americas, and up 100% or so from Q1 07' to Q1 08' in Others.

Americas is 50% of the market, rest of the world is 50% for holidays I'd say.  So if you factor in the size of Others vs. Japan in the other 50% and assume the increases now will remain (they won't) you'd have Wii sales up about 50% as well.

Since Wii sales were higher last year, even though both are increasing by 50%, Wii will beat PS3 by a larger margin worldwide in 2008. 

This is just my initial estimate...I'll have more when I do my Q1 2008 review article.

Obviously we'll know more come April 24 as well when shipment forecasts are released.

Ot: It will be Wii! Even more massive than 2007. Nintendo will unleash its tricks and have the largest holiday sales without question. In all honesty, the Wii only needs Wii sports to do massive numbers. The games that sell are just bonus money for Nintendo and their 3rd parties.

Ps3 will do good too. But some people saying it will beat Wii will be disappointed.

And, leo-j, I've learned to not listen to your predictions. Remember your "wii won't hit 20 mil in worldwide." deal? You lost the bet.
