Forums - Gaming - Is Scorpio truly a mid gen upgrade or 9th gen system? My opinions. An exciting new console war is coming!

If Scorpio fails as a mid gen upgrade and MS rebrands it as the XB2 with it's own exclusives, does that make it a new console even if it's the same hardware?

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

I think there is a possibility that they will screw PC gamers at some point. They currently have only 9% of Gears 4 players on PC as well as for some other games it was around 10% as well. I think they definitely not happy with this. So they can start releasing some games only on Xbox if it will bring them more money in theory by selling consoles to those PC guys who are interested in these games. The first game which I can see not releasing on PC is Halo 6.

Well. We saw how Games for Windows Live! wen't.
It was buggy, annoying, obtrusive and it alienated the Steam player base, UWP isn't much better.

Also PC gamers, the hardcore PC gamers, the PC gamers who need to wear a hazmat suit just to be in the same room as a console, will never buy a console, regardless of how powerful or how many exclusives it has.
Then you have other PC gamers who see the console as an Augmentation to the PC, not a replacement, buying a game on Xbox and being able to play it on PC is an attractive proposition for some.

Halo 6 will not arrive on PC, let's bite this one in the butt. A Mainline Halo game hasn't been on PC since Vista/Halo 2. That isn't about to change.
There is a reason Halo 5 never arrived on PC, despite things like Forge (Which requires Halo 5's game engine) being on PC.

I trust Digital Foundry's expert opinions in their write up about Scorpio. I expected more but it will still be a decent jump up. Don't expect anything too crazy though other than MS's version of the PS4 Pro.

Agreed. There are a few posters around these' parts who believe that Digital Foundry can't be trusted though. :P (They are crazy.)

It's a going to be a console squarely in this generation, it will be the fastest console this generation, but will also fall short of being next generation in terms of hardware capability.
With that said, it could have a big efficiency advantage over the Playstation 4 pro, which could give it a larger performance lead than the raw numbers imply, but we will need more hardware information before we can substantuate that hypothesis.

Mid gen upgrade.

It would be odd to have a "next gen system" with no exclusives.

That is why I wrote about them possibly backpedaling and making exclusives after all.

you could have just said you want xbox division to go under.

It doesn't matter. I doubt these hardcore PC gamers will be interested in MS games anyway even if they release them on Steam.

Does it have exclusives and special versions of games than yes. Otherwise no

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I'm going with 3rd-generation upgrade. Because it's MSs third console.

I can see MS slowly phasing out the Original Xbox and Slim versions.

You would be surprised.
It really depends on the genre, some types of genres do stupidly well on PC, in-fact better than console.

Fable for instance even after a decade after it's release would still go on sale and hit the top of Steams sales charts, that's some long legs. Sadly, outlets like vgchartz don't really keep track of sales over such a long period.

Then it really is a new gen.

if that happends I hope MS can make the scorpio for cheap... like 399$ or less.

Because PS4 at 199$ is going to be tempting to alot of people.

They ll stand in stores and go this one plays all the multi plats at 1080p, and this other one does 4k but for 399$.

Its still too soon, adoption rate of 4k tv's isnt there yet, and it would impact sales imo.

We won't know until we get a proper leak of its specs or until summer where Microsoft shows it off.

A lot can change between now and Novemember.
