I'm one of those weird people that plays Smash competitively with the wiimote held sideways. I know, eww.

What exactly do you mean by "competitively"? Because that controller is ass. I mean, objectively. It sucks. You shouldn't use it. Ever.

The Switch will be incompatible with every controller Nintendo's ever made, because reasons.

The only thing I can't do with the wiimote is up-tilt. Everything else I can do just as good as someone with a gamecube controller. I play For Glory, I have a group of friends that I play with (they all use gamecube controllers), and we also have small tournaments every once in a while in my town. The problem is I didn't really get into Melee. I started with Brawl and it just stuck.

OP wanted it for Smash. Sensor bar isn't required for Smash or SMB or Mario Kart or most games for that matter.

Nintendo had sensor bars for WiiU, same ones as Wii I think, a USB adaptor is all that would be needed if Nintendo wanted to add full Wii BC at some point, assuming Switch doesn't have it's own way of doing IR pointing (not seen pointer controls yet).

It still isn't happening. You know it isn't happening. Just accept it.

Well the gamecube controller happened on Wii U...so....

Well, I guess I have to congratulate you on being able to compete like that. How do you even walk and stuff?

Still, not being able to do up tilts is pretty awful depending on your character. You really should just play with the Nunchuk.

Well the walking is easy, just use the dpad like normal, then double tep in that direction to run. Probably the weirdest part about it is that the minus button is for grabbing and I literally have to reach all the way down the middle of the controller. I'm lucky I have big hands :->

I don't think so, Joy-cons are better in anything:
-better motion;
-joystick;
-HD Rumble;
-more standard buttons placement;

You know what? Great point. I don't know why I keep thinking Nintendo isn't capable of of doing absolutely anything no matter how ridiculous it sounds.

No worries, it happens

No. And good riddence, the Wii brand is holding Nintendo back -dropping that deadweight, which includes the Wiimotes, only benefits them

Joycons have mc so I doubt it.

Corrently no. But it seems like others have said that Joycons which are basically next gen Wiimotes have all the capiblity, and by some accounts by those who have used them have better fiedlity motion controls then the wiimotes, so it is basically pointless. Their may be an update in the future that allows them for multiplayer games, which will help. Because not all controllers need to have all that tech in them. Maybe hori or someone will make a Gamecube like joycon or pro controller without the bells and whistles and make it for $30 or so, i.e. the store brands.

GameCube is a different thing, though. The demand for those to be compatible with Smash is huge, and after what happened with the Wii U it will be even bigger now. Wiimotes, on the other hand, I don't see lots of people caring about.

It's a shame, though. I do wish I could just use my Wii U Pro Controller for Smash and stuff, but instead I'm forced to give Nintendo more money if I want to play the game competitively (eh, or I could just get used to GameCube controllers at this point).

I guess my only hope now is for a 3rd party to make something for it. Like this
