Forums - Nintendo - Capcom: Will only port Street Fighter if it does well on Switch?

When people buy a new console often they want to pick up a few games and are often less discerning with regard what they pick up. For publishers a great time to knock up a few easy titles. Put the same game onto other established formats and it will fail easily. I personally don't think there is much of a market for this game on Switch anyway but can't see it migrating to other formats unless just a cheap game on psn, steam or xbox live.

Are you guys kidding?

If something sells well then it's worth porting, financially. If it doesn't even it isn't.

No, it's just the fact that either way it sells, they're porting it to other systems. While they won't port their games to the Switch.

And there's a reason for it: as long as they make more money per game sold on PS4 and X1 than they do on Switch (lower royalties, cheaper medium), they have no interest in porting a PS4 game on Switch - that is until the port is so late it doesn't compete with the PS4/X1/PC version of the game, because otherwise each game sold on Switch instead of other platforms, would mean potential loss in their revenue. However, for the same reasons, if your game gets popular on Switch, porting it quickly makes sense, as each game sold on PS4/X1/PC instead of Switch would just increase their revenue.

Thats not worth porting when Sony has Street FIghter V.

My thinking is the exact opposite. People may buy USFII since SFV has been a disappointment.

Anywho, Capcom has been on a remaster frenzy. They haven't even added SF content to X1 BC. So I anticipate USFII on PS4/X1 eventually.

Street Fighter V was only a disappointment because it wasnt delivered as a full package. Capcom followed Microsofts method of rushing the sale and building up the game as they went along. Problem is the game came at a $60 price tag. Killer Instinct was free and eventually was much cheaper.

I think SFV has failed to deliver in numerous ways. You get little content with the retail game, too much grinding for unlocks, microtransactions, season passes are over priced time savers, the long awaited story mode was mediocre, etc. The gameplay is fine, but its essentially SFIV with tweaks to the average player.

Killer Instinct benefitted from low expectations and that allowed them to do basically whatever they wanted. The F2P strategy was good because it got a lot of people trying it and it was only $20 for Season 1. The old KI games is basically just enjoyed by the nostalgic so KI 2013 didn't have much to live up to, it just needed to be good.

I have a theory that Capcom saw what was happening with KI, but the only ideas they borrowed were releasing an incomplete product and pushing expensive microtransactions. Buying a season of KI is cheaper than SFV's essentially time saver season passes, its ridiculous.

Is this game similar to street fighter turbo hd remix because i just bought that game recently for $4 on the psn store

It can be considered another revision on that. It has similar features  but new characters (pallet swaps of some of the shots) plus tweaked balance since most of the changes made in the HD remix were not well received by the fighting game community.

Overall Capcom's statement says a lot about their stance on this game. Much like the 3DS version of Super Street Fighter 4 it isn't a massive investment and a way to gauge both Switch audience as well as demand for more SF2. As a fan and someone looking to get both, Ultra SF2 however  has no longer become a priority as based off past Capcom experience they will still be slow to support the Switches.

I hope the release REmake 2 on Switch.

Indeed. SFV won't never be as popular as II.

If the game does well enough to make a profit, then they can use some of that revenue to make the ports and risk other platforms. That's the only way this makes any sense.
