Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is letting 3DS cannibalize Switch

I agree with Curl, they should cancel Breath of the Wild for Wii U.

I am a Nintendo fanatic.

It makes sense though. The 3ds has such a huge installed base that they don't want to simply drop it. Nintendo also thinks that they will release a 3ds successor.

Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !

The 3DS choice is a bit odd, though I have two assumptions.

One is that the Gaiden game project started early enough that transition was not worth it. If we see a new Mario or Zelda launch on the 3DS then it's cannibalizing. It's probably why they have Amiibo with them, this is not a major project.

Two is that Koei Techmo games do not sell that much, so much that the roughly half a million that the Zelda 3DS port sold is rather good for them. We always talk about how Nintendo should let third parties have more freedom, this is the cost.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Don't see the big deal when they are supporting both 3DS and Switch. If they didn't announce a Switch version this thread would be relevant :/

If PS3 and X360 were still getting games even a couple years during the PS4 and Xbone's life cycle, why can't 3DS get a couple more games while Switch is still in it's infancy. Plus we'll get our FE Switch in 2018.

Hypocritical how people bashed the Wii U for lack of support, but are stomping the 3DS to death for them sticking to their promise of supporting the 3DS for a little longer.

Make your minds people. Sony supported the PS3 for quite some time. Heck, PS3 is gonna get Persona 5...Very confusing to see criticism from the gaming community against Nintendo's support when Nintendo is constantly criticized for potential lack of support in the future.

Nothing more than a huge contradiction.

Yeah, they're focusing way too much on 3DS games. Let that terrible console die already. It was under-powered in 2011, let alone 2017!

Mario Sports Superstar, Pikmin 3DS, Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, Ever Oasis, Fire Emblem Warriors and Fire Emblem: Echoes. It's getting more first party games than the Switch this year!

I can already tell the next Pokémon game will also be on the 3DS. Perhaps the one after that as well.

Switch is getting it's own FE game in 2018 so I don't see a problem.

I expected that some guy would make a kneejerk reaction thread.

Now the revisit of Fire Emblem 2 is a major new game while an actual sequel that is exclusive to Switch doesn't count.

Just saying "we have a Fire Emblem game for Switch next year" doesn't count. Games shouldn't be announced like that. The fact they can't even show a screen means it will get delayed till 2019 anyway.

Because they can't support two systems at once.
