isnt it a customized chip based on the same one Shield TV has? Im pretty sure Nvidia didnt customize it for free. Also Shield TV is made by Nvidia so they arent buying the chips. Nintendo has to buy them and pay for the customization. That in addition to the screen, Joy-Cons (which are reportably pretty advanced), battery for the device, Switch has more RAM & storage, etc. these things start to add up. I personally wish they would have gone for $250 or packed in a game at $300 but overall it doesnt seem to be a ripoff. |
There is no way a 6 inch 720p screen, a controller gimmick, a battery, etc should add $100 to the price tag.
For what you get, portable hardware that doubles as a souped up Wii U, $300 is excessive.

i agree, $300 is the absolute highest i could justify paying for it and a pack-in title would have certainly helped with the value proposition.

no, just the price of the console in the united states.
Launch games are... just zelda
accessories are expensive as fuck
splatoon 2 looks like splatoon 1.5
mario kart switch should have more tracks
I agree
My value for Switch is around $199. It sounds crazy but if you took out the 720p screen, replaced the joycons with a regular controller and switched out the dock for a HDMI out it would probably cost around that much. Nintendo makes a killing on their little peripherals so I don't fault them for doing their usual thing, but most of the cost of the $299 is fluff.

Yeah, any higher and that would be ridiculous. 300 is already pushing it for most people to buy it.

idk man, individually its a bunch of small stuff but eventually a lot of small things add up.
And like I said, its a customized chip that Nintendo has to pay for so its that part is obviously going to make it cost more than Shield TV.
One other thing i forgot to mention in the last post is retailer cut, from what i understand Shield TV is not sold at retail so there is no retailer cut associated with it while Switch will have that along with the cost to ship them all to stores.
but overall i agree that $300 is a bit on the high side and $250 would be the sweet spot.

Girl, I want my girlfriend to defend our love the way you defend nintendo thingies.
I respect your opinion and the and the guts you have to go headfirst into so much hate the Switch Price is getting. And yeah, I say Switch price, because In my case, I dont hate the switch, just its price.
Will be getting one as soon as the price drops. And remember, doesnt matter how good or bad a devices is. Price is King.

If this really going to be Nintendo's only system going forwards, I have a feeling they opted for a very high profit margin. I suspect if they'd wanted to, they could have sold this at $250 without taking a loss.
At any rate, my main concern regarding the price is that I worry that it will dampen Switch's sales and land us in another Wii U situation where it doesn't get the games because it doesn't have the install base.
