Wut. You can get HDMI cables for like 5$.... A piece of plastic and two ports plus an HDMI cable is nowhere near worth 89$.

Also, I'm not sure if you noticed, but 49$ is for *one* joy-con, which is basically half a controller.

Except is not really half controller, remeber the wiimotes?  Those were 40$ each one, this is actually very similar, with the difference tha Joycons are way more advanced.

Playing a game with only one joy-con seems to be utter shit and pretty terrible. But hey, that's just my opinion. They seem both way too small, and have to few inputs to function well as a controller with only one of them.

Wiimotes were usable with only one because they were bigger, and because the primary input method (motion controls) didn't require another controller.

And what did I say in my reponse to you? Two wrongs don't make a right. Just because Sony is overcharging for a stand doesn't mean that it's acceptable for Nintendo to overcharge for anything. I've been around long enough to remember Sony taking a bunch of shit for selling the original PS3 without an HDMI cable. Nintendo is taking shit for this because almost every single accessory for the Switch is 20-50% more expensive than what many consumers would consider to be fair prices, especially considering the price of similar accessories from Sony and Microsoft.

TL:DR: If Nintendo was selling a Switch stand for $30, and pretty much all of their other accessories were considered to be reasonably priced, no one would really give a shit.

I don't think anyone is reasonably defending Nintendo.

Everyone knows that companies make their big dollars selling accessories for exuberant prices. The pointing out of "two wrongs don't make a right" was not defending, just proof that Nintendo is not some outlier. All companies grossly overcharge accessory prices, whether they are in the gaming business, cell phone business, tv business, ect. (I mean heck, go into a Best Buy and purchase a new TV. Then watch the salesmen try to convince you how the $100 HDMI monster cables are the ones you need). Or buy a new phone in a verizon store and go and look at the rack of accessories and their prices.

No one is defending Nintendo, we are just saying why make a big deal out of nothing new.

It's not a big deal. It's just another reason why the Switch isn't as appealing to the average consumer as some make it out to be. This thread was created when Switch news first started pouring out after the reveal conference. It's not like people have been talking about it obsessively since. The mere fact that you've had to ressurect a dead thread just to make a point that "Sony has overpriced accessories too" kinda proves that doesn't it?

Everybody, even skeptics, said they feel way better than they look.

Wiimote also needed a Nunchuck for many games, don't you remember?

I'm sure most multiplayer games will be compatible with one Joycon alone each gamer anyways, so technically you have 2 gamepads for multiplayer already out of the box

I remember that you needed a nunchuck for many Wii games, hence the Wiimote was also sort of just half a controller (or I'd call it more like two thirds instead), but I still think a lone Wiimote is a lot more usable than a lone joy-con will be. Obviously I can't claim to know this for sure until I actually try one. Oh well. If you think 49$ for one joy-con is a fair price then that's what you think. I don't think so. Even considering that controllers are overpriced in general, 49$ for one joy-con seems even more overpriced.

$49 for the Joy cons is cheap imo. $89 for the dock that comes with an hdmi cable and an adapter is also fair.

The only thing expensive imo is the pro controller.

No is denying they are jacking up prices. All companies do for accessories.

But when making arguments one should also not use the "bare bones cheap" version of things. There are differeing qualities of HDMI cables. Some spec sheet I just looked at showed teh Switch can do 4k at 30fps. So it should have a packed in higher end hdmi. Still only be like $10 or something, not the like $100 a monster cable woudl charge, but still. And don't just grab a generic usb c charger. I'm sure you've heard the many horror stories with them ruining devices. You shudl lok at a high quailty one. Now again, not an apple overpriced one, but a quality one.

Now yes in the end this might mean the dock costs a total of $20 to make instaed of your estimated $10. But again no one is denying companies overprice accessories.

Yea, talk about rip-off with numchuck. I feel like they cots like 29.99, and what did they have? Did they even have rumble. They didn't have their own power source, you needed a cord to connect them. They had two buttons and a joystick. They weighed like all of 2 ounces at most.

In my original post in this thread, I already acknowledged the fact that accessories are overpriced in general, but this seems even more overpriced than what is the norm in the console industry.

For the cock, yes i woudl think so. But who knows what it all entitles and the R&D of it. But the dock is a definition of a huge optional thing. No one needs more thna one dock.

Now yes, if I were Nintendo I would have priced it insanely low. Maybe even at cost. Why? Because I think the idea of having a dock at every TV in teh house would make one use the system and make its uniqueness stick out even more. I mean imagine playing your handheld and tehn just in any room of your house popping it in and instandly playing. Huge turn on. At $90 a pop, yea I'm going to just stick to one dock. Thus stuck to my one tv, and mobile. Or else have to move console(dock)

But as for controller prices, I don't see it overpriced really. Well beyond accessories in genreal. I feel teh controller cost more than the ds4 and xbox, and thus the slight $5-10 more is reasonable.

*cof cof* Does anyone have a link to preorder the console on USA?

I think offcial console accesories tend to be too expensive always, I just don't think this are anything extraordinary all things considered.

The dock is the extraordinary one here, but is pretty obvious the price is high because is not convenient for Nintendo that you have a dock in every Tv or every house instead of buying another Switvch. They still give you the option though.
