Forums - Nintendo - Nikkei rumor: Nintendo Switch to cost 25000 yen ( probably 250$/250€)

Alright WTF, 250 dollars is now too high of a price? Geez, it seems like nothing can satisfy people here... It's a fine price tag for what it is, sure it's on par with XBONE/PS4 price-wise and might be more expensive at times but it's a portable form-factor and the most powerful handheld on the market.

Also, according to someone on Reddit who translated the entire article it's merely the investors' prediction. Not even their prediction or a leak.

$250 is great launch price for Switch.

Everything above $250 would be too expensive imo. $250 should be the limit for the Switch price.

They've updated the article, Nikkei actually said that the Wii and Wii U launched at 25000 yen, but an analyst from Rakuten is expecting the Switch to be 20000 yen in order to be popular.

So yea, we still don't have info on the price

There are two different subjects being argued here. One is the price that one thinks is reasonable to charge for Switch. The other is the price at which one thinks Switch will see well.

Most people seem to agree that $250 is a price they'd be comfortable paying for a Switch. I fall into that group. Others on here seem to agree that $200 is the sweet spot for moving many millions of units. I fall into this group as well. The two points are not.mutually exclusive.

And again begins the ridiculous debate over console prices that I will never understand. This is a long term investment for a console that you will have for years and will buy games for several times worth of the price of the console. It simply does not matter if it costs 200 or 300€. It's a fucking console, not your daily bread. Stop bartering over a few bucks.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yep, no news, just a writer thinking that this price would be a good price, nothing more.

Bad translation.

That has been the most probable price since quite some time, so there isn't really a reason to doubt it.

In relative terms, $250 isn't as bad as it was for the 3DS, because back then a new DS was about half the price of a 3DS. This time there is also the Wii U which costs more, although it comes with games. A next gen system for the price of $250 when the current gen isn't much cheaper or even more expensive isn't shabby.

Some other things to take into account

Switch in 2017 is far more powerful than 3DS in 2011

Hybrid concept of Switch is better than glasses-free 3D

Launch/post-launch lineup is much greater than 3DS had

These things help make the $250 price tag of Switch a greater value than the $250 price tag of 3DS at launch.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

And people still saying is too high? Good lord...

I really hope is true, is a great price.

$299 USD is the highest I am willing to pay for the device at the current stage (The rumors, if it turns out the device is more powerful, I am willing to pay more).
