In relative terms, $250 isn't as bad as it was for the 3DS, because back then a new DS was about half the price of a 3DS. This time there is also the Wii U which costs more, although it comes with games. A next gen system for the price of $250 when the current gen isn't much cheaper or even more expensive isn't shabby.                                     

Some other things to take into account

Switch in 2017 is far more powerful than 3DS in 2011

Hybrid concept of Switch is better than glasses-free 3D

Launch/post-launch lineup is much greater than 3DS had

These things help make the $250 price tag of Switch a greater value than the $250 price tag of 3DS at launch.
