Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer criticizes buying exclusive content/DLC

Probably not. The deal was made because of the support MS showed to the reboot so it makes sense for it to be made when Rise started development he might not be part of it.

Phil Spencer on the deal:

"When people want me to say, can you tell us when or if it's coming to other platforms, it's not my job," Spencer told Eurogamer. "My job is not to talk about games I don't own. I have a certain relationship on this version of Tomb Raider, which we announced, and I feel really good about our long term relationship with Crystal and Square.

"I get the reaction I see. If I'm a PlayStation person all of a sudden I feel like, the franchise has gone. I didn't buy the IP. I didn't buy the studio. It's not mine. Where this thing will go over time, just like Dead Rising or Ryse, we'll see what happens with the game. I don't own every iteration of Tomb Raider.

"I don't own them building Tomb Raider on other platforms. I can't talk about the franchise that way. I can talk about the deal I have."

Sounds to me like he was directly involved.

That doesn't mean he made the deal, if Mattrick made the deal and became head its becomes hus deal yes but does no mean he helped make the deal.

You made an alt already? Also QB, SO, Cuphead SOT, Ashen, Crackdown, Rare Replay, Scalebound, Phantom Dust, Forza have better alternatives on PS4? Please name me an alternative on PS4 for each game.

QB< Uncharted 4

SO, Crackdown< Infamous: SS, Spiderman

Lol Crackdown and Infamous, Spiderman are definitely not the same.

Phantom Dust- Cancelled

Speaking of the remake.

Scalebound< Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier Automata

How can you say its better? Its platinum games were talking about compared to gorilla games.

Cuphead, Ashen- these indies will end up on PS4 a month after their xbox release, like Inside. And even if they don't PS4 has so many of these types of indie games it doesn't even matter.

Cuphead is a lifelong MS exclusive and Ashen i think its the same. Many typesof indir games but not alternatives to these games.

Rare Replay? seriously a collection of old games?

Yes a collection of good but yes older games.

Forza< Driveclub, Gran Turismo

Driveclub isnt on the same level as forza and GTsports is a spinoff

So as I was saying, unless you're someone has to have his Halo and gears, don't bother with XB1.

Cant the same be said for people that domt like Incharted, God of War, JRPGs et?

Wasn't he behind (or part of) Rise of the Tomb Raider's deal?

Probably not. The deal was made because of the support MS showed to the reboot so it makes sense for it to be made when Rise started development he might not be part of it.

http://gamingbolt.com/dev-explains-why-the-turing-test-is-a-timed-xbox-one-console-exclusive-microsoft-really-loves-the-game

Then who who made this deal? They even state the game was initially developed for only Steam. The game came out this August. Has been in development for a little over a year. Well after Spencer was promoted.

And also, from the perspective of SE, why on earth would you launch one of the biggest PlayStation franchises (Tomb Raider) on a competing console with timed exclusivity when there is significant amounts of data showing how handily these games sell better on PlayStation? And what kind of support did Microsoft give them? Sure as hell wasn't marketing considering they never had a bundle and barely had tv promotions around that time.

Phil Spencer is different from Don who bought the time exclusive campaign rights to COD and BF. Phil could've easily kept that up, but he wanted to make new games and come up with new ideas. It's been working because xbox one is selling like crazy right now. This is what made me love the ps3 a lot was the exclusive game after another. Not to mention third party games are becoming less and less frequent and more and more the same.

Care to elaborate on that?

Cause upcoming games funded by MS are:

Scalebound

Sea of Thieves

Halo Wars 2

Crackdown 3

State of Decay 2

And For Sony they include:

Horizon Zero Dawn

Dreams

Days Gone

Detroit: Become Human

Death Stranding

Spiderman

Gravity Rush 2

Gran Turismo Sport

Gravity Rush 2

Knack 2

The Last of Us Part II

Hotshot's Golf

MLB The Show 17

WiLD

Matterfall

Drawn to Death

What Remains of Edith Finch

Microsoft's video game producion is the worst it's ever been. 343i, The Coalition, Turn 10 and Rare are the only first party stuios they have that make games.

Let me know when those games release. I remember reading a statistic that around 90% of Sony games that are shown at e3 don't come out the same year shown at e3 or the year after.

Tomb Raider was announced as multiplat and Phil was already the head of xbox so he was the man who made that deal... DR4 might be true because they could made it before xbox one launch ifor DR3 and DR4.

Actually the announcement trailer can only be found on the Xbox youtube and Tombraider youtube. It says nothing about coming to PS4. Also.Tomb Raider DE had a MS push/marketing and when Riise of the Tomb Raider started development it was during Mattrick so its safe to say it was Mattrick that got the deal.

Well, next year COD (might not but works as a example) will be announced in Sony conference at E3 and will not mention the xbox version, yet everyone is expecting it to be multiplatform. Since RoTR was announced in e3 2014 and phil was ahead of xbox since march and no exclusive deal was announced, everyone was expecting a multiplatform tittle, so, we can very well assume that the deal was made after that. The truth is neither i or you really know how it was but you have to take into consideration that there is a big chance that you are not right. Honestly i don't care about his statements on this matter, just was pointing out a hole in your argument.

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

That's quite intresting. But from looking at the time between game announcements and their release dates for Sony and MS published games this gen, Sony has been doing much better than MS.

Knack- 9 months

Killzone: SF- 9 months

MLB 14- 4 months

Infamous 2nd Son: 1 year 1 month

Driveclub- 1 year 8 months

LBP3- 5 months

The Order 1886- 1 year 8 months

Bloodborne- 9 months

MLB 15- 4 months

Until Dawn- 1 year

MLB 16- 4 months

Ratchet and Clank- 10 months

Uncharted 4- 1 year 11 months

Last Guardian- 1 year 6 months, after it’s PS4 announcement. 7 years from it’s PS3 announcement.

Gran Turismo Sport- announced at PGW 2015, so 1 year +.

Horizon Zero Dawn- Announced Last June, coming this February, so 1 year 8 months

Deroit- 1 year+ no release date

Dreams- 1 year+ no release date

God of War- announced this E3

Days Gone- announced this E3

Spiderman- Announced this E3

Death Stranding- Announced this E3

The Last of Us Part II - Announced at PSX 2016

Now Microsoft:

Ryse- 5 months

Forza 5- 6 months

Sunset Overdrive- 1 year 4 months

Halo 5- 2 years 4 months

Forza Horizon 2- 3 months

Forza 6-3 months

Quantum Break- 3 years

Recore- 1 year 3 months

Gears 4- 1 year 4 months

Scalebound- 2 years+ no release date

Phantom Dust- 2 years+ no release date

Crackdown 3- 2 years+ no release date

Fable Legends- Cancelled after 2 and half years of waiting

Forza Horizon 3- 3 months

State of Decay 2- Announced this E3

Sony's games this gen have all been out in less than 2 years after their initial announcement. The only blemish they have is The Last guardian which is really a mistake from last gen.

MS on the other hand has had Quantum Break which took 3 years. Scalebound, and crackdown 3 which will take 3+ years.

Phantom Dust, Fable legends, and Project Spark got cancelled.

MS announces a new Forza at E3 every year and releases it in September and people think MS is being very efficient and punctual with their releases.

But Sony also announces a new MLB at PSX and releases it in March. So yeah if we're going to question anyone regarding when and if their games are coming out it should be MS and not Sony, since MS has had several games take 3+ years, and several games that got cancelled.

I'd love to see that article. What source was that again? Or are you just quoting a crapgamer video again?

This whole "greatness awaits" thing was funny and mostly true for Sony, hence why I really had almost no fun factor with my Playstation till earlier this year, but now it's more true for Microsoft.

Remember when they announced Xbox One and said Halo 5 would be coming out in 2014? That didn't happen. I also remember when I got my Xbox One in late 2015, I was thinking "Man...even though I know Halo 5 will suck, at least I'm going to get Gears of War 4, Quantum Break, Scalebound, Crackdown 3 and Cuphead". You want to know how many of those games were delayed? 3. Yes, Cuphead, an INDIE GAME, was delayed to 2017. Scalebound was announced in MID 2014 and was DELAYED from 2016, ALL THE WAY TO 2017. By comparison, Nier Automata, another platinum  exclusive but for Playstation 4, was announced at e3 2016 from Square and is getting a release march 2017. That is a MUCH BETTER TIME WINDOW for a game that ISN'T BEING PUSHED BY SONY like Scalebound is from Microsoft.

And Crackdown 3? Don't even get me started. Lol Xbox One is worse. Only games that get shipped on time are Gears of War 4, and they ship with little content and microtransactions.

Crackdown 3 and scalebound were both announced at Microsoft's e3 2014 and they aren't coming out till 2017. Seems like the only games microsoft gives us on time are shitty sports games and terrible shooters. Cuphead was announced e3 2015, now delayed to mid 2017. Lol.

This. If you don't care about Halo, and Gears there's no reason for you to spend even a moment think about XB1.

The few other exclsuives that MS even has are not worth playing anyway, you can find better alternatives to stuff like Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, etc. on PS4.

'SOOOO! We want you to work on DLC for your game and we're going to sell the exclusive rights. Unfortunately we've decided we are keeping all the money for ourselves, now get working.'

Anyway most of the bigger studios publish their own game.

The Turning Test is a ID@Xbox game so they got resources from MS to make a console version. Like you said it was planned only for PC. If it wasnt for ID@Xbox it wont even have a console release.

I dont work at Square so i cant answer those questions. According to them they should support. Maybe it was because they showed the reboot at their E3.

He said the deal I have. When the game was first unveiled, it was multiplatform. Now I'm not going to run around like others and tag him as a "hypocrite", but this is certainly hypocritical on his part. The link further details it. Whether he was the one to go through with it or not is irrelevant. His company is Microsoft, and they, like their competitors, engage in this activity. Spencer, himself, is getting heat because his tweets are a contradiction to Rise Of The Tomb Raider-esque scenarios, regardless of any potential involvement Mattrick may have had.

Disagree with things his company has done in the past that he had no involvement in doesn't make his statement hyproactial. It just means he doesn't support the buisness practices MS has done before he became head of Xbox.

Well MS did the same with Dead Rising 4. It wasnt announced to be timed at E3. Maybe they didn't want that type.of.negative press of Tomb Raider and DR4 o they waited especially for Tomb Raider that has a big.following.

Lol i didnt know a series thats known for getting late 80s to 90s like Forza is shit or a game like Gears of War 4 that got good reviews is shit. I must have missed something.

Devs have no say in these decisions it all up to the publisher. Devs are paid to make a game with a set budget before these deals are made unless Sony,MS are funding the game.
