Because it is iOS exclusive which is not the biggest market and its not a free app.

Nintendo should have put it out on Android and iOS and made it a $4.99 app or free with ads/in-game purchases.

Silly Nintendo thinking the mobile market buys games/apps similar to consoles.

It'll take off once it launches on Android.

Like I said in another thread here.

Puzzle & dragons or monster strike or candy crush or angry birds are all Billion dollar earners, this game will struggle to earn $100 million

If Nintendo are serious about earning money in mobile they're better off doing IAP. I like Nintendo's strategy more as its more honest with an up front payment but as a business proposition its not the best method.
I wonder if they will start adding extra levels later on 99c per level or something. Though they might get some backlash from that, as a lot of people brought the game at $10 thinking thats all they would spend on it.

Investors want Nintendo to launch titles that have a recurring revenue stream (e.g. pay to win) - they are not expecting Super Mario Run (or any paid-up-front mobile game for that matter) to have consistent full-sale downloads.

What they're missing is that like all Mario titles - this one will have long tail of mainstream appeal.

Well, the concern is the opposite. They fear that once the Mario fans buy the game, it won't be able to get people to pay. That and the fact that they completely screwed up the paywall and unlocking the full game.

Is it too late to say that Nintendo's focus with mobile is getting more people to interact with their IP, not to make money?

10m downloads on the first day does that phenomenally.

Also I do think as successful as I do think Nintendo will be in making money from mobile (I do legitimately think they can be the world's no.1 smartphone app maker) expecting every game to be as successful as Pokemon Go was never happening either.

That was a one-off cultural phenomenon, Nintendo could make mobile games for the next 10 years and never have something like that happen again.

That was definitely the goal with Miitomo, but Super Mario Run was definitely designed to make money. They're still figuring how they want to supply their games to a new market. I don't think anyone would classify SMR as a flop, just not properly executed. Will definitely make them far more money this year than anything not named Pokemon.

The biggest market in terms of App revenues is iOS, not Android. Launching the game on Android will double the addressable market at best. A lot of games release on iOS first, this is Nintendo doing what others do, including MicroSoft. I've been using Gboard for months, a Google app that was just released for Android.

I am fine if the game flops, Nintendo is experimenting after all. But why are we assuming it's a flop with no official numbers available? The game is still no.1 on many top-grossing charts, and there are countries in which the game isn't available yet, including iOS biggest market; China.

You can release a game with a 10 dollars price tag then make it free with ads. But you can't release a free game with ads then price at 10 dollars. Nintendo is experimenting the right way.

Stock isn't because of Mario Run. It's because of underclocked 20nm Maxwell weaksauce. ;-O

Investors won't be happy simply making money, if they could have made significantly more money. It's like when a game breaks even, and we think "Oh, all's well then! As long as this publisher continues to break even, people will continue to have jobs to come into!"
But investors don't invest just to break even, they want to turn a profit.
