Forums - Politics Discussion - Donald Trump plainly admits to lying about his central campaign promises.

Debt is an awful thing if you haven't experienced how bitchy the creditors will get ... (Especially if most of you're creditors are your own citizens like the US.)

Well. That is a good point!

fatslob-:O said:

We literally can't do that. If we used the M1 definition of money supply we would only have 1.2 trillion dollars worth of notes and coins on hand and that's including supply that's circulated abroad!

Well. You can. You just need to play with inflation.

fatslob-:O said:

People will get really pissed if you print lot's of notes since it'll devalue the currency ...

Exactly. However, it is a tool that can be used if the need arises, just one of many infact.

fatslob-:O said:

Nah, Debt to GDP ratio isn't at all an issue if we take a look at Luxembourg. What should be an issue is interest rates vs GDP growth cause if the former is growing at a faster pace than the latter that is when debt becomes unamangeable but another thing to factor in is whether or not a nation is a creditor like China to protect itself from debt.)

It can be an issue if it reaches a point where paying that debt becomes impossible.
Japan spends a significant portion of it's taxation revenue on paying it's debt, money that could have been spent on something new and shiny.

Hmm, considering that the US is a net importer rather than a net exporter like China I highly doubt that to be the case ... (The nation would be able to save up on hundreds of billions because eliminating trade deficits.)

The USA is very strong in selling services. - That typically isn't always reflected in the US export numbers due to clever accounting by companies who keep that cash in other countries, or funnel it into a low-taxation country.

*****

The fact is, the USA will never be the worlds manufacturing hub, that will rest with China for the immediate future, regardless of what Tariffs/Taxes you introduce.
You need to transition your economy into higher skilled, higher paid, higher quality jobs, rather than keep looking towards the past.

All politicians lie period. Anyone who thinks differently is a sheep.

When Obama said he was going to do something as controversial as Healthcare Reform, he fucking did it. When Trump says he's going to build a fucking billion dollar wall, something as controversial as that, he backs down from it as soon as he's elected. He's a pussy.

All of that is true and my statement still stands. I'm not going to go into details about the stuff

Obama lied about but anyone who thinks he didn't lie is kidding themselves and is ignorant to who the man is and what he has said.

If jobs are created/saved, USA's debt reduced, ISIS smashed and the wall is built, most trump fans will be happy.

Anything on top of that is a bonus

He already said he isn't doing the wall, he said that the national debt will increase and ISIS was already on the ropes.

He said a wall is going up just yesterday.

If a wall/fence doesn't happen, I imagine it would be from those who oppose it somehow getting in the way.

In theory opponents cannot oppose it. Trump and his party has all the power.  - If a wall spanning your entire border isn't built with Mexico footing the bill, then it is trumps fault, not his opponents, so don't blame shift.

But the fact he can't even build a full wall and make Mexico pay for it proves his word is worth as much as the toilet paper it is written on.

How will you make Mexico pay for the wall?

1. Again, Hillary had a massive lead in NY and CA. Those are what gave her the popular vote. Trump had to actually appeal to swing states. Winning the popular vote is a different game.

2. Obamacare is unpopular because really expensive and the penalty for not having insurance is ridiculous. When unemployed people benefit more from it than actual working people, its broken. I also see people exploit it by working less or lying about their income to get free health care on the backs of those who pay. Even Obama has admitted its broken.

I can't deny the graphs show more job growth under democrats, but what do dems do to stimulate job growth? Higher taxes and more regulations? It certainly hasn't helped Obama much as we've seen small growth compared to other left wing presidents.

Obama's involvment with Bin Laden was essentially, "okay, do your job." The Benghazi thing, I think the bigger issue with that is the lying. Its just one of several occasions the administration was caught lying.

I understand Obama's favoribility is high, but polls also showed Hillary was gonna have a landslide victory. Its strange Obama is so popular but the country didn't want his successor.

A flip flopping president isn't that unusual, look at Obama. I'm more curious to see what Trump does accomplish. Basically you're comparing Obama's record to Trump's, but Trump isn't president yet.

For the record, its seems people think I hate Obama because I love repubuplicans. But I'm not boasting about other republican presidents or complaining about other democrat presidents. I just don't believe Obama was a good president and he certainly didn't push issues Trump supporters find important. I aslo find the push left wingers are making on socialism and social justice alarming. Bill Clinton was a moderate compared to what dems push now.

I just want to say. There is a massive difference between not being able to accomplish your campaign promises....and doing the exact opposite of your campaign promises. Trump is doing the opposite. He said he'd repeal Obamacare during the campaign; now he's saying the major provisions will be kept. He said he'd "drain the swamp" during the campaign; now he's filling it with establishment billionaires. He said he would tax companies that leave the nation during the campaign; now he's giving them millions in tax incentives. Does this not bother you? Those were some of the major points of his platform, now he's doing the opposite. That'd be like Obama campaigning on the ACA and then turning around and saying "actually, you're getting booted off your parent's insurance at 18 and if you have a pre existing condition, then NO insurance is allowed to cover you"

Flip flopping does occur across the board for all politicians in one area or another, but Trump is flip flopping on everything. He's done a 180 on everything it was that got people to vote Trump. What did Obama do? "Evolve" on gay marriage? That's the only thing I can think of. And don't say "you can keep your doctor". That's not a flip flop. That's just being incorrect. Trump is deliberately doing the opposite of what he promised during the campaign, which is downright malicious and incomparable to merely being wrong like Obama was about doctors

I think Obamacare as we know is basically dead, its an unpopular and broken law. Even Obama supporters complain about how they can't afford it, but people getting it free love it. Obamacare is a nutshell is just wealth redistribution. Trump is keeping some changes from Obama's healthcare reform and I think that's fine. I never assumed his goal was to kick down everything Obama did.

Drain the swamp basically meant get rid of everyone in the current administration. The swamp he creates doesn't count! But seriously, he getting a bunch of people together that know something about business. Curious to see how that works out.

I think the biggest flip flop Obama has had is handling of immigration throughout his terms. I hope the, "keep your doctor thing" was just ignorance on his but "what difference does it make?". For the sake of avoiding a long discussion on Obama flip flops, I suggest Googling it. His flip flops are just less apparent than Trump's if anything.

I totally agree Trump has a record of flip flopping on some issues. But I think the main things his supporters want and I totally agree with Ronster316...

Stimulate job growth and do it better than the Obama adminstration had. Not at par, do better.

Get tough on immigration, like really tough. Get the wall up, enforce laws on those employing illegals, perhaps punish sanctuary cities via funding, and get violent criminal illegals out of thise country ASAP with harsh penalities if they return. If he can accomplish that, MAYBE its time to talk amnesty for the rest that have spent many years in this country without being a burden. And quite frankly, republicans would gain a lot of support from latin communities if that happen so its an ideal scenario for the right.

Lastly, people expect him to deal with terrorism. Hopefully, "Mad Dog" can handle that.

If Trump delivers on those things, the flip floping on other things isn't that important. Am I hopeful he will get that all done? Not really. But we didn't believe Hillary would get those things done either. The odds just seem better with Trump.

Threatening to overturn NAFTA would be one since Mexico is the biggest beneficiary of it ...

Democrats are not for the working class anymore and the rust belt shows this with the disaffected white working class ...

It's why Sanders is right that that the Democratic Party is an absolute embarassment for not appealing to the common man ...
