Mobile gaming is taking a chunk out of everyone. So that's why we're seeing Sony and Nintendo invest in mobile games. But it's going to be a rough transition for them due to numerous reasons.

Nintendo I think will outlast many companies because of their design philosophy. They don't spend nearly as much on game development as I don't know, Naughty Dog or Take 2 because they design games that take minimum input but they receive maximum output on sales. In other words, they don't try to do photorealistic graphics, they don't probably use photogrammetry, or any techniques that Playstation 4 or Xbox One use due to developing underpowered hardware.

They're kind of like Apple, well they're really like Apple. Which is why I guess they're getting all buddy buddy lately. Pretty sure the Mario Kart 8 team used apple computers as well. Maybe we'll see a Ninpippin!? But I digress, I think the market is simply shifting, not necessarily crashing.

Could be.

I think what we're saying is all for the better. Yearly releases, low quality titles and business mistakes are all getting punished. Including the disaster that was 8th gen Nintendo hardware and Microsoft's arrogance (which they managed to salvage quickly enough). If we could just get rid of microtrasanctions (or any form of unjustified locked content) and paid online, the promised land would be here.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Maybe digital is taking over? Either that or the industry is in big trouble. Quality control is down, but budgets are also skyrocketing. I expect COD to further decline next year, which spells deep trouble for the franchise, and just about all 1st parties this gen have disappointed to some extent.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

There's the games crash, it's Nintendo's fault. Sony trying to pick up the slack but no one can make up the loss from a drop from 100 million consoles to 15 million.

Yeah, but people didn't stop buying consoles altogether. Wait till that Teraflop bubble pops.

When it does it would just be reolaced by something else.

we went from Sprites > bit > polygons > Teraflop

there will always be something. this didn't all start today.

I think so, there will be a new Crash sooner than later, all its pointing to that, but now that we know who is developing the N. Sane trilogy, the big question its; whos gonna to develop the new entry, when it will come, and for what platforms? ;)

I don't think it's going to crash anytime soon. It's not really doing that bad at all. It's more so some companies just messing up this gen, some franchises getting some fatigue, and perhaps handhelds declining some? Also, you pick some oddly specific titles to try to make your point. Golden Sun wasn't really ever a power house franchise...

Yes. Sony and Microsoft's hunger for power will lead us to a world with overpowered consoles that still can't run games properly but cost hundreds of dollars and people buy remaster after remaster of the same bland games with the same white middle aged males firing guns endlessly. And then it will all go to hell.

That has to be the post of the day lol. Well done haha.

The crash of the video game industry in the 1980s was based on the fact that people stopped playing video games.
I don't see that coming

nope
if anything it booming at the moment
