New IPs

~1m+ sellers (exc Nintendo)

3 years v 2 years. Bigger install base.

2014-2016 2007-2008
29m-71m+ install base 25m-46m install base
Destiny Assassin's Creed
DriveClub Ben 10: Protector of Earth
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare BioShock
Sunset Overdrive Crysis
The Crew DiRT
The Evil Within Heavenly Sword
Titanfall Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
Watch Dogs Lost Odyssey
Mad Max (2015) Mass Effect
Project CARS Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
The Order: 1886 Skate
Until Dawn Stranglehold
No Man's Sky The Orange Box
Overwatch The Simpsons Game
Bloodborne Two Worlds
Dying Light Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
  Warhawk
  Worldwide Soccer Manager 2008
  Army of Two
  BioShock
  Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
  Haze
  Infinite Undiscovery
  Kung Fu Panda
  Left 4 Dead
  LittleBigPlanet
  Mass Effect
  Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
  Pure
  Shaun White Snowboarding
  Spore
  Too Human

Quick-list. Not wholly accurate. Debatable 'new' IPs.

Looks to me like the CoD audience quickly jumped into the new gen and this gen is frontloaded.

Without the 1m+ shovelware cashins that the Wii/DS provided, there's less money in the pot for new IPs.

Install base argument is mute. I don't see how this gen is going to match last gen for successful (1m+) new IPs.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Yes. Sony and Microsoft's hunger for power will lead us to a world with overpowered consoles that still can't run games properly but cost hundreds of dollars and people buy remaster after remaster of the same bland games with the same white middle aged males firing guns endlessly. And then it will all go to hell.

It doesn't matter, no one's buying Wii Us anymore.

There's the games crash, it's Nintendo's fault. Sony trying to pick up the slack but no one can make up the loss from a drop from 100 million consoles to 15 million.

thats a reslly strange way to make that list..... Why not just do first three years vs first three years?

So we should be looking at 2013-2016 for 8th gen and 2005-2008 for 7th gen.

Another thing to consider is that with 8th gen, due to  the smaller leap from sub HD to full HD as opposed to going from SD to hd Meant that this gen had a lot more cross platform cross gen games than the last gen. Once the new hardware came out in 2005/2006 there were very fee games released across the PS2/xB and the PS3/360

He included cross-generation games in the list, he just missed tons. (I assume you meant cross-generation not cross-platform)

Shadows of Mordor
Rocket League
Knack
Star Wars Battlefront
Doom

Some of them the last-gen list are very questionable, Spore? That wasn't on consoles.

Wait.. mobile gaming is not gaming industry now?
