Forums - Sales Discussion - 360 to hit 2m in UK next week (Chart-Track)

Chart-Track weeks:

Week 11 (360 Price drop):

360: + 36%
PS3: + 06%

Week 12 (Good Friday/Saturday)

360: + 78%
PS3: + 73%

(360 + PS3 neck and neck, but PS3 still slighlty ahead)

Week 13 (Easter Sunday/Monday, GT5:P)

360: - 11%
PS3: +14%

As Chart-Track said PS3 & 360 were neck and neck in week 12, with PS3 slightly ahead we can work out some ratios for the past 4 weeks. I'll give PS3 a baseline of 100 for week 12, and assume 360 was within 5%, 3% would seem to be fair, so 360 week 12 baseline will be 97.

10-13:

PS3: 327 = 54%
360: 277 = 46%

13:

PS3: 114 =57%
360: 86 =43%

12:

PS3: 100 =51%
360: 97 =49%

11:

PS3: 58 =52%
360: 54 =48%

10:

PS3: 55 =58%
360: 40 =42%

So, as we can see, the week before 360 price-drop PS3 outsold 360 nearly 3/2 (58%/42%). The two weeks following the price-drop 360 almost pulled level (52%/48% & 51%/49%), but in the third week after the price-drop dropped back (57%/43%) to almost where it was before the drop. PS3 had a big release (GT5:P) this week though, so it remains to be seen where the sales ratio will level out after Easter and GT5:P sales have died down.

Over the last 4 weeks (Weeks 10-13) PS3 has outsold 360 by 54%/46%.

I don't understand why you are not a contributor now, because you are strong in maths, and you always find informations about hardware in country all over the worlds.

Also according to Chart-Track 2008 Q1 UK software sales were up 15% over Q1 2007.

The games industry is doing so well everyhwere right now.

@lombard

Thanks, I just like to post here, others can use the data if they wish to contribute.

2 million sold to customers or to retailers? Anyway it is, at least, overtracked by 150.000

2 million XBox 360 sales in UK in a week must be a April Fool's prank.

Haha, oh wow. This site is full of retards.

I believe Chart Track only tracks sold-to-customers. Therefore, if Chart Track is right and Vgchartz is wrong, it is overtracked by around the number you just mentioned.

EDIT - why does the source link not work? Is this another April fools joke?

Oh ok, just found the correct link:

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

So it seems the 360 is overtracked by about 130K for the UK by VGChartz. So far the website doesn't seem to have been very accurate with regard to the UK. Some major corrections with regard to PS3 sales in the past and 360 vs PS3 sales recently.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Figures agree pretty closely with what we have, I love how people jump in so quickly. Small decrease for 360 this week and small increase for PS3. Not the huge PS3 figures some were expecting since last week saw such a boost for easter. It is hard to improve much on an already large figure.

Same goes for GT5P. It did ~120k in the UK this week so why people are thinking 700k for Europe is a little crazy, especially when UK always sees larger week 1 sales and faster dropoffs.

yes. Have to say I'm impressed with the data. When GFK numbers from france appeared, your estimations were so close.

150.000 in 2 million is not horrible

A 130k difference in a figure of 2 million is less than 7% difference so hardly "miles out" is it?

For people's info the difference between our figures and Chart Track's for 360 comes from 2006 and early 2007. In the last 12 months our figures agree almost perfectly. As always, we use manufacturer info to check our data against which is why we disagree with CT on early 360 data. But like I say, 130k difference over 2 1/2 years on a figure of 2 million isn't what I'd call a major issue. Especially since our PS3 figure is also around 60k higher than CT

of course, but the lack of adjustements with official sources (NPD, or others) is ruining the reputation of the web trough internet, in my opinion

I've always loved vgchartz as a good source to get info from the past adjusted to official sources and as a market indicator wich works very well with a little part of the market being covered
