Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan : FF XV is the worst FF debut ever on PlayStation Consoles

With the movie pack that came with a game copy and isnt counted in the latest chart it sold 13k, and Xb1 version sold 3.7K in japan. So 716.7K with digital we could be seeing maybe 850k FW in Japan. Still down but considering Square Shipped over 1m its not that bad. Could hit a million this year in Japan with digital and maybe 1.3-1.4 LT, If it comes to the Switch and the Switch performance is good sales wise it could do 1.8m in JP lifetime which is just under 13 but not a huge drop..

Consoles are are an after thought in Japan that's why, I disagree with any notion that it's to do with the franchise declining it's more a case that most gamers in Japan are on mobile and portable as opposed to decades ago.

Checking the numbers here, it looks like despite it underperforming compared to other FF games, it's already the highest selling PS4 game in Japan by over 200k (MGS:V is around 480k). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The PS4 is selling well, so what the heck are they playing over there?

This doesn't hold up because the PS4's installbase at FFXV's launch is about the same as the PS3's installbase when FFXIII launched, yet FFXIII sold twice as much.

Well a console shooter did better on a system at the time of release barely had 10 million consoles in the world.

Call of Duty.

And watching hentai.

It is a game clearly aimed at the western market, it was rather obvious it would not do as well as other FFs on Japan.

Yes it's clearly aimed at the J-Pop Boy Band Slightly Homoerotic Road Trip crowd that's huge in the West.

If these characters were any more Japanese anime in design style they'd poop Ichiban noodles.

No shit FF13 burned millions of fans.

You think they are just gonna jump on board with the next game? LOL

I'm one of those who's still weary from my experience with XIII. My most disliked FF game ever. Even worse than X-2.

Yeah I'm still pretty sore about XIII. For some reason I bought XIII-2 and loved it though. I guess because it was a sequel it didn't really renew my faith in the series and then XIII-3 just ruined it again.

Between XI being online, XIII series being mostly a disaster and the disatrous launch of XIV, the series has a lot to make up for since 2002.

FFVIII has the highest sales. FFVIII is GOAT!!! And my personal favorite FF as well.

While I think Squenix deserves a bit of a sales kick in the arse as punishment for fogetting how to write around the time XIII was in development, I don't think these numbers are entirely fair.
FFVII to XII were only available on Playstation where as now it's multiplatform, so it seems fair to combine the PS4 and Xbone sales and then compare the result to previous launches. Though since we're talking about Japanese sales figures, Xbone sales probably wouldn't remedy those figures much I admit.
