Is Final Fantasy XV a step in the right direction??

I love how people here still expected a turn based game when it was an action rpg game since the first time it was revealed. It was meant to be a realistic setting rather than a fantasy one since the beginning aswell. Yeah the game has its flaws, but it is still a very good game to me.

Haven't played it, but considering all Final Fantasy games tend to be different from each other, it's not a "step in the right direction". It's just a new entry. Different than how all the previous 14 games were.

come on its better then ff13 LMAO

No because ff15 does not have waifu porn in the internet, its just 4 dudes, ff13 had vanille, lightning and sera , some of the best waifus to fap online to weeaboo fanmade porn.

You'll have another kind of masculine exclusive porn.

In my opinion FF 13 wasn't that bad, but I still don't know wtf was the story about and I could not understand the conflict between two fractions. It didn't even bother me, that game was so linear.
As I did not finish FF XV yet I can't tell whether or not it's plot is step in good direction, but as for now the best story telling is Witcher 3.

Can't really say if it's "right" or "wrong" but it's a direction that doesn't interest me. Almost all the elements that I used to love about Final Fantasy appear to be gone.

FF12 had what was pretty close to a world map, I think. It was made up of fairly open non-linear maps with a lot of interconnected points.  It certainly wasn't in any way a "hallway" game.

You are right, pretty early on in the game, if you wanted to, you could wander to areas of the game far higher in level than you currently were, aside from some mini bosses in the way here or there, plus entirely optional areas too. It had an overworld map but that was more for fast travel than anything.

Yeah, there was a level of freedom in that game that, while not necessarily as open as in FF15, would let you go to any number of places pretty early.  You could even stumble onto optional bosses and get destroyed.  This is one of the reasons I look at FF12 so highly, especially compared with FF10 and FF13. It felt more like a world.

not to me as i still prefer traditional turn base system or fully action RPG, lucky i watched the gameplay before i buy it and decided not getting FFXV after all because really don't like the way it plays, hopefully FFVII Remake is not going the same direction or else i don't think i will be interested in it too...

Am I the only one who thinks the numbers are getting ridiculously high? They should ditch the numbered titles and just go with a different subtitle each time, like the Zelda series does.

It will stop at FF XXX.

FFXV could be (a lot) better on the storytelling part. The pacing is really weird: very slow at the start, then too much (disjointed) story in the last few chapters.

About the world, I have to say the old FFs overworld map is just not gon work in today's standard. I kinda wish they just make smaller and more varied instanced maps, instead of one huge map with little variation.

And for the more important part, characters. This is where i think FFXV really shines. Dont let their appearance fools you. The chemistry and the banter are so good, it's the main thing that keeps me slog through the worse part of FFXV. I'm pretty sure most of the reviewers out there would say the same.

I'm not going into that turnbased vs action debate, but if this series is going into more action combat, they missed several important points:

  • Command cancel is essential in any action game
  • Enemy atk needs better animation. It's difficult to anticipate some of the atks because the animation is really weird. Often times, i have to rely on "press x to dodge" notification to defend
  • Magic doesnt feel as smooth as weapon combat. Wish I could cast magic while dancing among the enemies
  • CAMERA THAT WORKS. THE WORST OFFENDER OF FFXV

I admit they've done a really good job on the melee combat tho. If you think the first FF13v trailer was great, you'll be awed with what you can do in the game.
Closing word: i'm just glad this game comes out, and FF canfinally move on from 13v. There were too much baggage on this game before it even came out. It was developed with an unfinished engine and a team that has no idea how to use it. The game is stuck with this "nomura's vision, which is supposed to be 3 games with open world, and more action based gameplay. and this will be my last post abt ffxv.

So I am currently at chapter 2. I did a few side missions as well but I still have a long way to go.

But so far, what I think is that this style of FFXV certainly has its charm. It just feels very relaxing to play this game and I won't dock any marks for trying something new.

But what I do feel though is that the execution wasn't really as good as I expected it would be. I yarred Kingsglave since a review said you really should watch it to understand the story and boy was he right. If I didn't watch it, I would not had much of an idea as to what is going on so far. Imo, they should have included the movie in the game in the form of cutscenes. Cause imo, that would have made the game much better cause it would have given it a much clearer picture. But again, only in chapter 2.

The next complaint I have is that so far, the world doesn't feel very lively. Look at XCX, GTA V and other open world games, they are much more filled with people or creatures than this game is so far.

And the car, oh boy the car. It is just as I feared, you can't do shit with it. The manual mode is so restrictive that you may as well just play it in automatic mode.

But on the bright side, I love the combat, the characters are pretty great, the graphics is nice, the music is great, the cutscenes are obviously excellent and etc.

So for me, is it a step in the right direction? Hard to tell. It may have been if the execution was better so if they try again next round with much better execution, then maybe. Or they can go back to their roots as a lot of FF fans have been asking but that doesn't seem like the end goal.

Than again, I am only in chapter 2 so some of the opinion that I have might change after I finished the game.

It's better than 13 that's for sure, but it's still no way near as good as other titles. I have played and completed every Final Fantasy numerous times, love the franchise to bits.

I think if the story telling was on point and they added a few more characters as well as more magic then we would have had a very very good Final Fantasy on our hands. Most people that are bitching haven't actually played it. I will admit it is a let down but it's not as much of a let down as FFXIII was.

How I order Final Fantasy:

1. FFIX
2. FFVII
3. FFVIII
4. FFX
5. FFVI
6. FFIV
7. FFXII
8. FFXV
9. FFV
10. FFXIII
11. FFI
12. FFIII
13. FFII
