Forums - Sony - So PS4 Pro will make games look better even on 1080p screens, but..

I wonder if every single game will look better or only the enhanced ones.
Also, I do not own a 4K TV, but, according to the ads I saw, some of them have processor that make any content 4k in some way, I wonder what happens when you play PS4 on one of those.
I think I will get a 4k tv next year, I never even saw one in person, but you guys are hyping it quite a bit.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Look at FFXV on the PS4Pro compared to the Base model, they've added in extra higher res textures and also the foliage in the game has been turned up because the system can handle it... this foliage will be visible on a 1080p TV on a Pro and won't be visible on a Ps4 base model, because it isn't being rendered. I mean... you can say you aren't sure will people see a bush on the ground, but it might be because Sony are being "Shady"?? about it.

And yeah with FFXV again, frame rates improved all over the place over the base model version of the game, I mean it doesn't matter again if you're on a 1080p screen or a 4k TV you are going to notice smoother frame rates.... I hope?

Any footage of this?

Being asked to google stuff for someone on the internet is annoying.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Sadly I think (checkerboard) 4k will be much more common because it's easier to market and probably to implement as well. If you're adding graphical effects, you have to create something new. That's not the case with simply increasing resolution.

Thoughts?

Why do game trailers only show the best possible version of a game?

they want you see and know what a game looks like at its best.

Besides, they are advertising the PS4 Pro with techniques that make it worth owning for 4KTV owners. That is pretty much what most of the improved tech is for. They don't need to show 1080P cause 1) that could start confusing the message and 2) because the simple fact that techniques like down sampling (is that whats it called?) from the 4K esque tech to 1080P will look better.

Might be what the advertisement targets, but in all honesty i'm much more looking forward improved framerates and iq in 1080p.

I've got a way more powerful PC setup than either the ps4pro or the scorpio will be and I'm playing at 1080p (though usually aiming for 144fps). At 60 fps 1080p both consoles will be quite amazing in terms of visual quality. Just vsync the hell out of the games and I'm a happy camper

I'm 1000% more curious to put Bloodborne on and checking if there are no fps drops when doing some coop/invasions.

I guess 1 more week to find it all out :)

Don't games need patches for any improvements to occur? I'm still not clear on this.

Depends if the CPU is underclocked when playing unpatched games... if it isn't then games that suffered from frame drops on the OG PS4 should run better on the Pro even without a patch.

But yeah we don't know the details.

Not necesarrily, as they're already creating higher quality assets, better lighting, better foliage etc for the PC releases.

Yes on patches to improve visual quality (better textures, lighting, etc).

When it comes to mantaining a smooth framerate I would be shocked if the pro had any sort of dips. The reason fps drops for the most part is when either the cpu or gpu are rendering more than they can chew. If the game targets 60 fps and drops to 30/20 because the apu can't render all the frames, double the apu performance and these frame drops shouldn't happen anymore. Even the Xbox 1 S had marginal fps gains over the vanilla system with a nearly identical apu

Some modes of BF1 will probably have a much better framerate on Pro. 33% more CPU is quite significant for a CPU limited game like BF1 on some modes like MP 64 players maps.

That's great news really. Every minor gain is important imo. If for example, the Pro can get EDF 4.1 to a consistant 60fps instead of having the dips it has, I would love that. :)

Only the games that get patches/support the Pro from the start will look better. Sony said in the other games the Pro will clock down/lock the additional compute units to behave exactly like a base PS4 to make sure it has 100% 0-effort compatibility with all PS4 games.

Even without a 4K TV Pro patched/supported games will look sharper/have less aliasing and additional benefits on a game by game basis (depending on the effort the dev made).
