Not that I give this rumour much weight, but if it was true I'd imagine allowing the series to continue in portable form while ps4 got MH5 would mean Sony had to pay a hell of A lot less for the deal.

They already did on PS3 with Monster Hunter 3rd HD, it tanked. like every other MH game on console, the Tri series seems to be the only exception.

I don't see it happening. Because Sony gamers aren't going to tolerate a ugly looking game. Unless they are doing the engine from scratch. Otherwise if it happens, it will be languishing on consoles.
