Forums - Nintendo - Emily Rogers: Switch has 4GB of ram in RETAIL units, leaked specs might not be farfetched

The Wii actually got some good 3rd party games, they just weren't the ones the PS3/360 got. It had games like Sin & Punishment 2, Tatsunoko and Capcom, House of the Dead: Overkill, Sonic Colors, No More Heroes and others.

And from the big guns, the Wii with it's 88MB of Ram in comparison to the 512MB which was in the PS3/X360 at the time was still capable of doing some damn nice ports of games like Call of Duty simply because when you have a console in 100m homes then companies are going to put in a bit of effort to get their games on them, because even if 1 in every hundred buys your game, you've still got a million units sold.

The power gap between the Wii and the PS360 was absolutely massive, yet there was still tons of games being ported to it all during it's lifespan,  WWE series, Fifa, Call of Duty, guitar hero etc. Third parties go where the money is, if the switch sells like hotcakes then games will go to it, wouldn't matter a fuck of if the thing was using a motorola 68000 with blast processing, companies will make games for where money is to be had, end of story.

If the NS sells well then it will definitely get the likes of FIFA, Call of Duty, Madden, etc..

Why is everyone saying it's all right for a handheld when Nintendo has specifically been promoting it as a home console?

because reality exists independent of Nintendo's PR statements

Because moving the goalpost is very convenient in arguments.

How much additional cost would it be to add the extra RAM to compare it to PS4/XBO?
How much would it matter with these latest rumors?

You can get a stick of 8gb ram for next to nothing.

Thats as a consumer.... if your buying them wholesale with economics of scale on yourside...

Its probably like spending 6$ on 4GB, instead of spending 12$ (for 8GB), for nintendo.

They have to make sure the Switch can be sold for 250$ at a profit though.

Twice as much as WiiU? That's more than enough for me.

When comparing potential of a handheld console you could also think of it as around 8 times what is inside the Vita, and that thing is capable of some beautiful worlds.

Skip to around 4 mins for gameplay

8 times that... yes please.

Criminal this was never released on a home console. Wipeout needs the big screen and 5.1 surround sound. No wonder the series died. I tried playing it on the psp before wipeout hd came out, pretty boring game on a handheld. Btw who ever is playing sucks :) Looks like they're using the d-pad to steer?

It's much better news if you look at it from the point of view of "How much more capable is this thing than Nintendo's current home console", than "How realistically close is this going to be to Xbox One".

I see it as a good thing. Even if the UI/ always-on background functions eat up 1GB of the 4, that's three left for pure games. That's three times more than Wii U had, and we're only talking about memory. We're not even talking about the CPU/ GPU, which are even more integral to games than memory. By all accounts, this will be noticeably more capable than Wii U when it comes to graphics/ performance. And since we're talking about a system that doubles as a standalone handheld that can run purely on battery (even if only for 3 hours), that's pretty damn good.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Not this damn argument again. GC had cutting edge tech and was considerably more powerful than PS2 and guess what console was more successful.

Yeah, like those that were saying this is just a handheld, Nintendo leaved the console market, is just a 720p tablet, etc etc and then come here complaining because is not a powerful homeconsole, suddlenly is not a handheld anymore xD We have a bunch of those in this same thread.

Its funny how everyone forgets about optimization. The PS3 had 512mb of ram and was still able to run GTA 5...... which "requires" 8GBs on PC. Switch will be finee
