Forums - Nintendo - So, why didn't Nintendo reveal the Switch at E3?

Nintendo made us wait over a year between announcement and reveal of the NX. Roumor after roumor, leak after leak... 2 E3's passed between March 2015 (first mention of the NX) and it's unveil last week. But WHY!?

This E3, Nintendo did something unthinkable: Bring only one game. Sure, it turned out a success, but they had a system to be unveiled, and decided to reveal it with a teaser trailer 4 months later. What was the whole deal? They didn't announce games, they didn't announce features, just showed the system and its portability. So I ask, why not at - gee, I don't know - E3?

Now, last year, Nintendo also said they had a new strategy when announcing new games. They said they wanted to announce a game at least 1 year before release, which is why we didn't see Breath of the Wild at E3 2015, but rather at E3 2016. But the NX was less than a year away from release at E3 2016! It's impossible for a system to not be ready just 9 months before release, so what could be the most possible excuse Nintendo had?

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Wasn't ready to show. The 3 minute presentation we got was filmed in September. Something about game footage also is very time consuming and take hundred of GBs just to get a few seconds of footage. Takes a long time to get the right angles make sure nothing is bugging out or hitching and running well on incomplete games.

I'd guess - because they couldn't.

Something changed between June and October. Maybe they didn't have the "accessories" ready. Or the dock. Or maybe they didn't have the games they wanted to show off.

5 months is a fairly large amount of time and anything could change then.

100% agree

It's easy to doctor all that footage in. Even if the dock and console looked different they could have shown it off. With a warning "final product still in development". I don't think the footage in the video was actual gameplay.

Because, Sony and Microsoft would have copied their idea...which really isn't that original to begin with Joking aside, in hindsight it would have been a very confusing time for Nintendo. I'm glad they waited. Now, they'll have all eyes on them in January, they'll have their own special event taking place in Japan's largest convention center. I think that's more impressive than E3. And have you seen that place?

I think Nintendo made the right moves regarding E3. They showed Zelda, Zelda got great coverage, and Nintendo has set up Switch's greatest launch sysstem seller to succeed. I think this E3, Nintendo will use that time to showcase games that are on the Switch and games that are coming during the holiday. It's really a great plan.

They weren't even ready for that teaser. They only released it due to ever louder outcries. We can only hope they're actually ready in January.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Im actually glad they only showed Zelda when it was done. All Nintendo fans, haters, fellow gamers and the media eyes were on it.

Pocky Lover Boy!

Because they believe that other companies want to steal their concept...

Because they didn't want people to steal their idea... which was already done with the Morphus X300. Years earlier.

.... Somehow Nintendo thought people would want to steal the idea of a 720p tablet with controller nubs. It still boggles the mind.
