Forums - Nintendo - Could Smash Bros skip the Nintendo Switch?

How do we even know that the versions of Mario Kart and Splatoon seen in that trailer are indicative of what we'll get?

Looking back at the 3DS reveal, which was similarly months before its actual release details were shared, we saw a bunch of games that Nintendo was bringing to the 3DS. Mario Kart 3D was using the Wuhu Island track recycled from Wii Sports Resort and Paper Mario had a Chain Chomp partner and more graphics taken from previous games. Kid Icarus had rougher graphics and different voice actors, not to mention what seem to be different shooting mechanics.

If the Switch is only slightly more powerful than the Wii U and has a resolution of 720p or so, it makes perfect sense for Nintendo to reuse some of those assets while making new Switch games. It would be like how many Wii games were either revived versions of cancelled/delayed GameCube games or were direct sequels Super Paper Mario, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Link's Crossbow Training, Mario Party 8, and DK Barrel Blast used GameCube assets at various points.

Nah it's definitely Mario Kart 8 with very minor additions. If they try and sell it as a sequel they can fuck off, I certainly won't be buying a switch if that's the case.

What's wrong with it exactly? No one is saying "if Forza whatever looks like the last one I'm done with the series". It's the nature of racing games.

Comparing games like Forza that use real world tracks and cars to a kart racer is silly. It is not the nature of kart games, Whether it be crash, sonic, mario or any other franchise.

Though from what I've seen there's a far bigger difference between Forza games then the Mario Kart shown.

Basically it would be the laziest kart racer ever released, there's never been a kart racing game that's literally the previous entry with a couple of characters and new mechanics thrown in. That's what's wrong with it.

But none of this matters because it will be called Mario Kart 8, not Mario Kart 9. Because Nintendo aren't that stupid.

people will have to deal with the fact they can't use gamecube controllers anymore.

Never gonna happen.

Smash 4 Ultimate remaster

To be fair they didn't announce neither Splatoon and Mario Kart ports, they just showed games.
Saying that I am sure that port of Smash Bros 4 port with new content and fighters will be on Switch.

There is only a limited amount of ways to reinvent the wheel regardless of whether its Forza or Kart. A racer is a racer.

Reinvent the wheel??? I'm talking about reusing the same assets as why it would be so absolutely awful if it was marketed as an actual sequel.

Same Models, Textures, HUD, Tracks, Particle Effects, Shaders, Music? & SFX? That's what would make it an abomination and pure laziness. It could have the same mechanics as Mario Kart 8, they don't need to "reinvent the wheel" , they just actually have to make something new.

They are coming, all consoles since release have had one smash and one kart game.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

And you would know this based on the couple of seconds of video shown? New characters would also point to differnt assets being needed. A lot of Nintendo first party looks rather underwhelming in their first showing. Also, there are lots of games released that use similar assets. The fact a handheld is using the same assets to play a game of a home console isn't as soul crushingly bad to me. In fact, I think it looked rather good tbh.

Fact is, no Mario Kart game has used the same Models and Textures as the predecessor. The game shown was literally Mario Kart 8 with a new character. It's not "similair assets" it was identical assets. Mario Kart is probably my favorite series, and if they try and say this is "mario kart 9" the game will be slammed into the ground, and it will show that Nintendo has finally completely lost it.

Every previous entry in the series has had all the tracks made from the ground up, all the characters and kart models made from the ground up, all with unique music, sounds and textures.
