Forums - Nintendo - Why NS 128GB SD is better than Xbox/PS 500GB HDD.

Why do people keep saying NS supports 128GB SD when the Wii U and 3DS supports 2TB?

WiiU can support 2TB HDD not SD card. But it uses the HDD in the same fashion as NS will use SD card, so that is suggestive.

3DS had a limit of 32GB SD cards, but apparently has no such stated limit any further.

The limit comes from dev kits. Apparently they are limited to 128GB. I think there won't be any such limit beyond cost.

Not true. 32GB comes from the standard FAT32 formatting, but some tools are capable of going up to 2TB albeit with a single file size limit of 4GB which doesn't really matter in this case. I use 64GB since close to 3DS launch.

Actually any device that does SDHC should be capable to use any SD ever made.

my problem are the gigantic patches the lazy developers always put out.
Granted, they would not exist if these guys finished their games before launching it, ans if they properly bugtestes their products before putting them in the market.
But, if the WiiU failed because of lack of third party support, which is in part truth, then I think it is a must to indulge the third party bad habits of patching crappy software after launch, cause Nintendo need them.
The solution? A 500GB internal memory.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

did I miss something or aren't sd cards still pretty expensive vs blurays ? if they do use 128GB cards it's very possible that NS games will be 10-20$ more expensive then on PS/X1 like back in the N64 days. fuck that shit

SD card != game cart.

Games will come on a cart that likely varies in size based on what the develper needs. They are moderately more expensive than a bluray, but not so much so that it becomes prohibative or pushes up the price of the game. I think that is evidenced by 3DS now and that games are actually cheaper than home consoles.

SD cards are what is being used for storage expansion vs HDD.

well, 3ds games cost 1/10 of Hd games to make but are sold for 10$ cheaper, what happens when NS games that cost just as much as PS4/X1 games to produce are put on sd cards, I pretty sure it's gonna mean more expensive NS version vs the other two consoles. 3rd party games have already such a hard time selling on Nintendo platform it's gonna be even harder when the same game is sold for more on the NS vs the competition.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

At least this isn't another odd Nintendo conspiracy thread.

Your use of "better" is awkward. SD is better for a portable device. That doesn't make it better than a HDD. Thus making comparison wanting and almost baiting of console users.

Would you agree that an SSD is better than an HDD?

Well yes...but if my device has an option of 32gb flash vs 50gb HDD then I wil pick HDD. If it was a 250gb+ SSD then I'd go for the SSD.

Also doesn't NS dock have USB inputs?

If we are talking exclusively about the NS, then I'd agree that the 32gb isn't really an issue since games won't be installed. SD cards are cheap so expansion is easy for digital games.

But for PS4/X1, games are installed so more space is crucial. With that said, not sure if it's a level comparison...

Why dont they just include 2 or 4 SD ports?
Including 4 ports seems cheaper than including 64Gb.
And 4x128(or 256, 512 later) should be more than enough for everything you want.
And the consumer that fills the first one can just buy another SD, and dont have to take the first off. Neither manage which games are on each SD for choosing.

Sd card is still much more expensive than hhd. You can get 1tb hhd with the same amt of money you spend on 128gb SD card.

Ofc this wouldnt matter if none of us is expecting those delicious 3rd party AAA titles for NS. But judging from NS 3rd party reveal thread, some ppl are defly gon be disappointed by this SD card rumor

Why 8MB cartridges are better than 512MB CDs.

Why GBA connectivity is better than online play.

Why SD resolution is better than HD resolution.

Why a tablet screen on a controller is better than 1.8 terafl ... awwww screw it.

It never ends, lol.

As true is your post is, don't you hope Nintendo got one thing right at least with the NS lol?

128GB game cart that can be written to is far more valuable than any internal space. I would soon rather a 50gb game with some extra storage space on it for patches and dlc. Then i can play that game on any NS system I want and not worry about having to redownload stuff.

But this is were the dream ends. I double Nintendo will allow DLC and patches to be installed to the game cart.

The Switch will only have one memory card slot anyway, so the bottom 2 are redundant. You're also assuming every game is 50gb on PS4 before any patches or DLC.... which certainly gives SD an unfair advantage.

And of course this doesn't take into account digital games or media... which would destroy SD storage as well.

SD storage is great for a handheld, but AWFUL for a home console.
