So lets say $150 for the hardware + $50 for a 6-inch 720p screen + $20 for your dock. Yeah $250 is not entirely out of the question, though it could be $299.99.

well scince it will get most likely a newer little better chip (like x2 or something custom) the priece would right be back. Also we need battery in the tablet and those controllers are probl more expensive to make compared to the shield controllers.

Yeah, Yeah. Who cares?

everybody who likes facts and the truth i guess. All the people thinking the Switch will be as powerfull as an xbox one are completly off. There is not a single logical reason for that.

re-edit your post to state opinions and not fact and truth.

No one knows for sure if this thing will succeed or fail, sio its neither fact nor truth

Though keep in mind that Shield console is almost 2 years old by the time NS actually launches.

So moving to an X2 chip, probably does not increase the cost all that much. The X2 honestly isn't some huge upgrade over the X1. It's better but it's mainly because of a die shrink from 20nm to 16nm and using the Pascal archiecture, but it's not something that's massively more powerful or more expensive. Nintendo likely also got a hell of a deal on the chip since Nvidia had no other devices to use the chip on (self driving cars are great but they ain't happening in the immediate future).

Battery sure, but batteries even huge ones are relatively cheap especially at mass production. Lets say $8-$10 for the battery.

The switch using a nvidia made tegra (arm soc) chip is a fact

all benchmark results from previous tegra chips and similar arm socs are facts as well.

Thats what the topic is about.

Its just compeltly impossible to achieve xbox one power on an mobile arm soc base at the moment. If it would be possible, samsung and apple would already put those chips in their phones. And both are in terms of arm socs "better" then nvidia scince they have ALOT more market share and so alot more money to invest in research and development of those socs.

I never said the NX beeing powerfull XYZ as an fact. I said its a fact that its power will range in a certain area. This area is given through physical limitations we got so far. I doubt the switch will feature a nvidia soc made in 2nm that outperforms the current marekt leading ships from samsung, apple and snapdragon by the factor 5 or higher. That would be as realistic as predicting the ps4 pro would be 3x the power of the gtx 1080 (before its announcement).

People also said the ps4 pro wouldnt be able to achieve 4k gaming on current gen games as "facts". That wasnt a problem either, right?

So no, that arnt opinions.

OP: The Tegra X1 is used in the Pixel C tablet. It works well in tablet form factor, but isn't cheap ($499).

So far I agree with the OP thogh. The NS may be in an uncanny position. It will be underpowered compared to PS4/XB1 so it won't make a good console alternative and similar to Wii U's position as far as getting games.

It will be powerful for a handheld, which will also make it expensive for a handheld.   Also by trying to make games playable on TV, they will need to ask developers to not rely on touch controls.  So... by trying to kill two birds with one stone I wonder if they will instead hurt their handheld business and not make progress on home business.

I would've shorted Nintendo if I knew what NS was going to be.  Investors have already pulled back on the stock.

NS has shown no unique ways to play: The games shown use capabilities that are available on any console or computer with a gamepad.  There's literally no argument against them going 3rd party after this.

Well I will give the OP props for actually doing some research. It isn't as powerful as a PS4, I don't think anyone would seriously expect that though, it's a tablet form factor, if it was as powerful as a PS4 its battery life would be 15-20 minutes and/or you'd be danger of melting the entire machine's inside.

But good for you for tracking down actual benchmarks, they might be illuminating for some people, though a tablet which is 1/3 a PS4/XB1 is nothing to scoff at for purposes of portability.

I think my main dissapointment with the concept is there's no real big extra power in the dock. That seems to me like an oppurtunity missed, something 1/3 an XBox One on the go, but could "power up" to equal to XBox One at home would've been good for me, though admittedly more expensive.

One thing I should point out though is you got the Nvidia Shield console price wrong. It's $199.99 without a HDD, and that price is from over a year ago, meaning it probably could be sold cheaper for now if Nvidia really wanted to.

So lets say $150 for the hardware + $50 for a 6-inch 720p screen + $20 for your dock. Yeah $250 is not entirely out of the question, though it could be $299.99.

Honestly it's a deception really. It's not a hybrid if it has no extra power from a docking station.

This is just a handheld! It's just like the Nvidia Shield and nobody wanted to play multiplatforms on that. Nobody bought the Shield.

With only 1/3 of the power of the Xboxox it is impossible to get third party onboard and many people will feel even the firt party games won't look good enuff when you run them on your living room huge 4K TV.

It can't be just 1/3 of Xbox and simply a handheld. It can't. I am so disappointed.

I'd say it will be successful if it is capable of what tablets/smartphones can do (apps, media, internet). Otherwise i can't see its place on the market.

It probably won't happen but it would be funny if the Switch turned out to be more powerful than x1 or ps4. The Internet would melt.

It also would be awesome it the Switch turned out to bring peace to the Middle East :)

Consoles were meant for war not love!

Yeah somebody already mentioned this. Its a clocked down version though. gets around 90 instead of 120 fps in trex 1080 offscreen rendering benchmark
