Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: Switch is a home gaming system ‘first and foremost’

It's Wii U Take 2: Electric Bugaloo.

Basically though it is essentially I think what they wanted to do with the Wii U in the first place, it just was not possible to eliminate the 'console box' and put the chipset physically into the tablet. Now it is.

This is good news because I really want another Nintendo Handheld after my 3DS and the switch isn't it, so they might release a new handheld after the switch :) well at least thats how i am reading it

that would be amazing!

Some people just wanna see the world burn.....

Peronsally I think that would be a huge mistake.

They just need to price this Nintendo Switch, so it can sell to people that typically buy handheld gameing devices.

Another reason why this in no way shape or form, should be over 299$.

Preferably they can hit 249$ (or sell it without docking station part for 199$).

If they ever decide to release a traditional box and controller version of Switch I will buy one.

So its down to the fucking box having to be traditional now...?

If it is a hybrid I could see it selling quite well. If it is a home console that splits library between it and a 3DS successor released in 2018 then I have real concerns about it.

I agree, this is bad communication by Nintendo.

They obviously should point the fact that it's both equally, a hybrid.

Both handheld and home equally. This is the path to success.

^ this.

Its simple and elegant "its both", consumers will get it instantly and remember it fast.

And theres really nothing to be gain to be gained by going "its firstly a console, we might still do a 3ds replacement".

Im not sure if its because they are worried about 3DS sales if they go "its both", but thats obviously what they should have done.

This is a marketing mistake on their part, or a communcation issue.

Yeah.

Especially the "we might still do a 3DS replacement" part, that is just pure disaster from a communication perspective.

You just finally announced a console after a very long wait but now your customers should just start waiting again?!

This is communication on the same level as Xbox back in 2013, and Don Matrick with his "well, they can buy the X360".

I dont get this either.... Daredevil, what differnce does it make if its inside a box, or a tablet thats docked?

If it performs the same? Unless its to cut away costs? but we dont know how expensive it will be yet, maybe its cheap enough as is.

sure it is, Nintendo. Sure it is

Nothing says "home console" like a trailer where 70% of it is shown being played outside of the house, including on a bus, airport, airplane, etc. lol.

Nintendo basically wants to reserve the "handheld" tag for the 3DS since they still want to be able to sell it for a year or two more, they can't do that if people start saying this is the 3DS replacement.

Its probably because the games will be more like console games.

If you say so, Nintendo!

Don't want that display pad thingy in my console. As for portable gaming I don't play much except occasional mobile games. I like to play in big screen.
