Forums - Nintendo - The late and not so great...

Pachter should be ignored anyways. According to his predictions the Vita outsold the 3DS and The Order 1886 sold 12 million units.

Michael Pachter has always been known for saying stupid stuff. I will never be able to see him as anything more than some random guy who jumping into gaming way too late and now thinks his opinion should matter to everyone.

But I am not just mad a this statement because I feel it was a dick move, I am mad at it because he did it in the worst possible way. Pachter said things about Iwata that were rude and unnecessary before he died. In the past he has said the following -

"I dont know why Iwata is still employed"
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-12-05-pachter-i-dont-know-why-iwata-is-still-employed

"It's entirely possible that he's delusional"
http://nintendonews.com/news/wii-u/pachter-on-iwata-its-entirely-possible-hes-delusional/

And then we go forward to the time after he died. Even people who did not like the way Iwata ran the company agreed that he was a great name in the gaming industry and that it would only be right to honor him for the good that he has done. During the year that followed his passing many people honored him in any way possible, even in most recent months.

And now, after all of that has dies down, and within that time Pachter never said anything. But now he decides to come out and basically say "Iwata was not even that good of a developer" Thats like going up to someone whose mother died little over a year ago and saying "I never even liked her". He was a jerk for saying it and he was a coward for waiting until now to say it.

it's ok to have an opinion but when you do this you're an asshole, just like those who say "omg paul walker was not a good actor" etc etc, it's the same thing. The person is dead and a lot of people like to respect their memories, don't be a fucking asshole because you're "above and your opinions are important" please.

I disagree. I think it`s perfectly fine to criticise people for being bad at acting or leading Nintendo or whatever else depending on the context you`re saying it in. It just seems like a shitty low blow with the way Pachter said it by specifically mentioning his death in the same sentence and crticising him like that. Although if you`re not relating it to his death or anything then I think it`s perfectly fair to criticise them for things.

like I said, it's ok to have an opinion, but the "late not so great" is more like a disrespect.

Welp...

http://gonintendo.com/stories/266853-gonintendo-will-no-longer-share-michael-pachter-commentary

I don't know gonintendo.com so, I don't know if this has any value or not.

"In the most recent episode of Pachter Factor, analyst Michael Pachter mentions Satoru Iwata in passing. During his statement, Pachter says (3:30 mark), "the late and not so great Satoru Iwata." Whether or not Pachter believes Iwata's contributions to the industry were important is one thing. To take a jab at a man no longer with us just disgusts me, especially when most of us recognize how kind-hearted Mr. Iwata was.

Again, I take no issue if Pachter doesn't feel Iwata's works merit and positive commentary. There are plenty of business decisions the man made that many analysts disagree with. That said, I take issue with how his remark is nothing but a petty jab at a man that we lost due to illness.

From here on out, we will not be covering anything else Michael Pachter shares in his analysis or commentary."

Gotta love good ol' Pachter sometimes......

Oh right, I agree with that then. It was just the Paul Walker thing that made me misunderstand I guess.

what I mean by that is that some people downgrade the feelings of other people just because paul walker was not a good actor, to me he was not an actor at all, he was the guy from FF, but not because of that I need to attack him nor his fans. It's a different scenario but similar.

He just seems butthurt by Nintendo since Wii and DS success. Does anyone take this guy serious, I mean he called PC gamers racist just weeks ago. His opinion as valid is one of random joe on the street, the best to ignore him out of existance, infact scratch that I hope he gets flack, since it makes him more irrelevant, given he has become super irrelevant since the death of gametrailers.

So it's okay to lash out on a tirade of hate against a living man because he happened to criticize the strategy of a dead business leader.

Great logic. Fantastic sense of justice.

I watched the entire video and I never felt like he was being mean.

He explains why he didnt think he was a great business leader, and why hes not happy with the approach nintendo is takeing with paywall Super Mario Run.

I dont understand why people here are getting upset.

It is simply saying the statement, he seems bitter still that Nintendo does not do what he wants them to do. It is okay to critise individuals by the way, dead or alive, however statements like that are unnecessary, and you lose points in your argument by saying things like that, namely when the man is accomplished.

It would be like critizing Ken Kutaragi for the ps3, but ignoring all he did for the PS2/PS1. Or Will Wright for Spore when he had Sim. These men are still accomplished.  Somethings are better left not said, namely when you are trying to critique a company's current policies.
