Forums - Gaming - Should psn offer refunds?

Oh yeah, I would love that. The Steam refund is one of the coolest things in the industry right now. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo should definitely follow suit. I very much doubt they will, though, because of all the reasons people listed above. A lot of games today are designed to be worth playing, but not worth owning. By that I mean it's a short, story-driven title with little to no replay value. Also, so much of the industry is predicated upon using advertising and pre-order bonuses to get consumers on the hook before they know exactly what a game is -- thus fewer demos and no refunds.

It already does. I've gotten 3 or so PSN refunds. They say sales are final, but thats not true

I`d use Apple as an example. They have a recycling program for old Apple products, but the money you get from it can only be spent on other Apple products. You can`t dispose of your old iphone and then use that money for a Samsung or something, which is what your exchange system would be like. That doesn`t benefit Apple so there`s no reason for them to offer that.

I get you but in my head the idea is a Sony/MS only thing, they do fork the bill for it. The value of the exchange would only eat into their cut, not the 3rd parties cut. It's PSN credit they get in exchange, so customers still have to spend the money on more games, it's not like GAME or Gamestop where you can get cash and not spend the money again on games or buy used copies so the money goes back into the store not the 3rd party developer.

In a way, it's an idea to basically solve the issue the publishers have the used game sales, by making the option to do exchanges in digital form where i presume currently it's more profitable to sell games.

I don't think the refunds thing would ever happen, you see. I think publishers are just too tight to change the very way games are sold digitally to essentially allow all consumers to 'try before you buy', in a sense.

Hmm, pie.

The problem isn't with the refund it offers, it's with how unflexible they are and inconsiderate to individual circumstances.

I rang 10hrs of from their 14 day policy and didn't get a refund. Instead I was sent around a huge circle with promises of call backs and told a bunch of crap.

In the end I had to go through citizens advise and trading dtandards who said to check if Sony are part of a dispute resolution scheme. I asked them and their response was since it is a legal matter as far as they are concerned they won't tell me and it's my job to find out. According to the law, what they said was breaking the law.

Sony are incapable of showing human intelligence when anything falls out of their policy or procedure. They literally fall apart and don't take anything you say into consideration nor the treatment of being passed around by their team.

I suppose it's not so much about their refund policy as much as it is about their customer service overall.

I never understood this.

If every digital distribution service should offer the option of refunds than why can't physical? What's the difference?

What about digital/physical movies then?

Technically they do refunds. I got a refund once off Sony. I pre ordered watch dogs on ps3 by mistake. Then I had to go and pre order it on ps4 again when it launched. So I had 2 versions. I rang them, said I hadn't even started up the ps3 version and would like a refund. No problem at all. Refund granted.

I got one too. Bought Game of Thrones (the telltales game) for ps3 instead of ps4. Got a refund a week later, when the sale was over. Thankfully TT games are always on sale

=)

Right, well that probably would be easier to get going that trying to get 3rd parties to foot the bill.

I suppose it does make you wonder if it would negatively affect game prices much though. Considering the amount they`d give you back would have to be a fair bit lower than the current price of the game to be worthwhile to Sony, would this encourage them to keep the price of old games as high as possible so that it stays an attractive prospect for customers rather than becoming such a small amount that it`s not worth doing?

I'm really not sure how it would affect things but lets use a real world scenario. Uncharted 4, you can get on disc currently for about about £25-30? Not much but let's say the currently price of £45 allowed me to exchange my copy of Diablo 3 I purchased for £25 way back when. I'll get a 1/4 of it's worth so £6.50 or so, not much but if it means I get money off and I don't have to bother with swapping discs when I want to play or even leaving the house to buy it, I would definitely be included to do it. Buying the game for £30 on a disc, they'd get less from the sale anyway. I dunno... it's an idea.

Both of these were genuine mistakes and in terms of PS Stores refund policy, they would be refunded due to you not downloading the purchase. Well within the rules...

... now what would they do if you downloaded it, played it and then said in their reason for a refund 'Just didn't like it.'?

I told him I haven't even downloaded the ps3 version and he said it's OK we would refund you regardless.

i don't think i would have ever taken advantage of a refund policy but i still think it is a good idea. the policy in place by steam seems pretty fair to me,.. if you're going to ask for a refund you should ask for it after playing the game for only an hour or so.

where i really want a refund policy is on pre-orders. better yet,.. don't take my money until the game ships sony. i should be able to cancel a pre-order. i really, really should be able to cancel a pre-order on base version of a game so that i can upgrade to a better edition that includes season passes or whatever. i've been very trigger shy on pre-ordering anything on psn until the game is only a week out.
