Forums - Sony - Early impressions for Final Fantasy XV on PS4 Pro: its like a new game

I wouldn't be pleased if I were a regular PS4 owner. The premium experience they thought they bought at launch isn't so premium anymore.

This works out in my favor though. I should be able to pick up a regular PS4 on the cheap later. I wouldn't be shocked if people will be able to find them for $150 and below eventually.

Okay someone help me understand....as a regular PS4 owner why should I be upset or feel forced to upgrade to the PS4 Pro since the PS4 I have will still play all the same games and they will still play and look great? Why would I feel as if I am getting a gimmped version of a game? I keep seeing people say these things but I don't get it...

It is not like I am getting a laggy unplayable game I am just getting one that is not as shiny as the other but mine still looks amazing and plays amazing. So where is the issue in this people are seeming to have?

Ok ill try.

1. As a regular PS4 owner your game runs between 20-30fps, your PS4Pro friends version will run solid 30 or more FPS = yours is gimped.

2. As a regular PS4 owner you no longer have the best console looking console exclusive or performing games = yours is gimped.

3. As a regular PS4 owner you have no way to know if your game is running sub 30 fps thanks to less optimizing (Thanks to ps4pro) or if thats how it would of been. Ether way PS4Pro version is smoother so yours = gimped.

4. Your PS4 wont play "The exact" same game since it wont look or perform anywhere as good, something the article in the OP really hits home = your version is gimped.

Now clearly this wont be a problem for everyone. But you can bet your ass it will also be a problem for many leading many to feel like they have to upgrade.

So let me get this straight basically you are saying I have been playing gimped versions of games since I got my PS4. Well then if the games I have been playing are "gimped" then I am fine with that because they run great, look great and play great so I guess it won't be an issue for me. Heck Id on't think it will be an issue for many to be honest. If that was the case everyone would have a PC because it runs the best version of all the games.

Gimped in my opinion is something with a lot of bugs that is almost unplayable. But just because one is a locked 30fps and mine dips between 20-30 that doesn't make it gimped. Heck most people wouldn't even notice that. And I think we sometimes mix our gaming forums with the real world....many won't care because they don't know anything about the 30fps etc. they just know they have a new game that looks great and plays great.

But as BasilZero said we will see in a few months what the real outcome is and how the games compare. Good points though man!

Yup with the HDR and near 4K graphics its looks great.

Don't listen to any comparison to Episode Duscae. The vanilla PS4 version has apparently made leaps and bounds since then.

The Pro version make the gameplay less clunky and awkward?

Cause if not...

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I'm kinda pissed at this. I thought that by buying the PS4 I was getting the best possible console this gen but it seems I got screwed over.

I'm not sure. It sounds like a lot of hyperbole to me.

Think I'd rather see some real comparison footage instead of judging from word of mouth and off-television camera shots. I suspect the actual differences will be far less astonishing.

You're pissed at being given more options?

More options and more choice is good, you can choose to upgrade or you can choose to stick with what you've got. The system you own hasn't changed.

We are talking about Consoles here Not PC's. Reason why people buy Sony consoles is they know they will be playing the same game as their friends for 6+ Years. That is no longer the case.Sure it might not be a big deal to many. But also to many many others this is one of the main reasons for buying a console over another device.

They are literally playing the same game as their friends. There are no "Pro exclusive" games.

Listen, if you feel like you need the best version of every game, first of all I expect you to have a beast PC rig, only then you'd be able to satisfy that need. Secondly, just go ahead and trade in your og ps4 for the pro. Clearly you feel extremely passionate about getting the best experience.

You don't want to spend the money for it? Then i would suggest you stop complaining and let others enjoy their upgrade, while you enjoy the same console you already own.

Newsflash, the PS5 will probably be out in 2/3 years. Consider it a heads up so you won't complain then how it's too soon and you don't have the pro for 6+ years

Do you have a 4K tv?

Have you seen FF15 on a normal ps4.... a more stable framerate doesn't need a HDTV, he is right, premium experience = premium price of upgrade, too bad this game isn't coming to the PC else I would have skipped this version.
