Forums - Gaming - Will sales of the Scorpio take a hit?

Every system is a "media player" these days.

The last game console that tried to push against that was the Nintendo GameCube and it got it's rear ended kicked in with that approach.

People watch movies on their console, whether physical or streaming and have for 16 years now thanks largely TO Sony.

The PS4 Pro plays movies too ... it just plays shittier versions of them than the new XBox systems and you have to pay a separate $300+ to get proper quality 4K video playback, whereas on the XBox this feature is free if you have a 4KTV.

MS did not fail because of a media approach, no one gives a shit about that. They failed because they charged $100 more for the XBox One due to the monstrosity known as Kinect 2.0 and then simultaneously gimped their chipset because they were over-concerned with heating issues causing them to lose parity/superiority with third party multiplatform games which are key to the XBox brand.

Had they launched at $399.99 (dumping Kinect) with the same specs or better than Sony, this console race would be very different today.

Wow..... very interesting way of thinking right there.

Something smells fishy to me about this. Sony did not just mean for this to just be a simple upgrade. Sony stated the console was supposed to stop potential PC gamers from jumping ship and going to PC. That is a failure if the console cannot aspire to hit at least 1080p 60fps.

I truly am starting to believe this console was supposed to be for enthusiasts who want to get into VR rather than PC and give a baseline experience that the original PS4 could not offer with a non-native 4 simulated experience. Sony backtracked and said not everyone was ready for 4k when asked about the console and said HDR is the primary focus. They are runnig around in circles and its confusing.

I think you are confusing yourself. Cause everything you just said (with exception to the 1080p@60fps) is true but you said them as if they all can't coexist together.

With the upclock from 1.5Ghz on the CPU and with the GPU upgrade, the PS4pro can and should be able to run games at 1080p@60fps.

A consoles biggest advantage is that it offers are great price to performance value proposition. This holds true accross varying price points. The issue though is that the people willing to buy your console when it cost $350-$399 (the enthusiasts) are very different from those buying at $199-$250. Being that the enthusiasts buy more games. However around halfway through a consoles life it becomes possible for those $350-$400 consumer to find hardware in the $400-$500/$600 ball part that will run circles around the console. And they will gravitate to that. Hence the PS4pro would help prevent that by presenting a $399 box that is again better  and more powerful than any PC at the exact same price point. That's what Sony means by "targeting" PCs.

Now all this doesn't also mean HDR isnt very important. It's the obvious thing that the average consumer with a 4K HDR tv will see and appreciate before eveen looking at resolution.

Reason I ask this is because the console was annopunced a YEAR AND A HALF before the supposed launch window.

With PS4 PRO literally 59 days away and Sony's ability to under cut the price of the PRO $50-100 in a year, do you think the Scorpio will take a hit in sales?

Not claminig i Know the price of the Scorpio, but almost everyone is agree ment that it wont be cheap.

I'm thinking it will be at least $150 cheaper than Scorpio.

Predicting that Second Son (PS4) will outsell Titanfall (XOne) in lifetime sales.  Click here for sales comparison thread.

It'll be no more than $399. I'll keep to that till the price is released.

6 teraflops for $399. Stop living in lala land.

One year from now? So 4 Tflops for $399 for no problem, but yet this will be $600? Lol

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Sure your right maybe not everyone is changing their opinion on the matter but you, Karton, Ruler etc. I have no problem with pointing out how you guys opinions change a lot in line with Sony's. You where in threads praising Sony when their games where 1080P and the xb1 version was 900P.

So yes for you and "some" (But not all) other sony fans power was a a factor, but now it no longer matters.

And if you went to those threads do you think you would see a certain group of people saying that power DOESN'T matter. And that 900p is as good as 1080p? I bet you would..

Sure. People pissed on the XB1 because it was less powerful, but now it doesn't matter at all? Personally, I never thought the difference was massive. But backtracking like this seems to be in line with Sony having the less powerful console now.

It has no chance to compete with PS4Pro. There will be at least 100$ difference between the two. Next year Sony is having great lineup of games as well. Majority will still be with 1080P and PS4Pro with it price advantage will be the choice of console. If you look back at 360 success it was released early and was also cheaper of the 2 console. This time it is releasing a year late and will also be expensive. It will run game at higher resolution this time than PS4Pro but that audience of 4K, I am not sure may be 20%?

Is this guy for real? He claims that the same people who were saying power is everything are now saying otherwise. When asked if he knows for a fact that they were the same people, he ignores the whole site... while not ignoring it?!

I know there were threads about 1080p but who really said that that's why the PS4 outsold the X1 and is now saying that that power means nothing?

Hey buddy,  I'd appreciate if you stopped calling me out on the site like this. I don't like people making things Personal.  If you want to take digs at me just pm me.  thanks.

It will take a hit. next year would be rough for the XB1. At least rougher than this one. There is a big chance that the wait for the scorpio will stall Xbox One s sales. Especially if the PS4pro keeps making the news. Good or bad press. it's gonna affect the XB1.

And with the scorpio, no matter what price it comes in at, sony will drop their price by $100 to undercut it.

Competition is great for the consumer ;) I'll wait til then to get a Pro. 4K HDR TVs will be cheaper/better by then too.

the highlights the main difference between PS Pro and Scorpio. Scorpio is being branded as a premium machine, the pro is just being marketed as better. The only 100 dollar difference in price point attest to this. I highly doubt scorpio will just be 100 dollars more than the cheapest option to get an xb1.

Scorpio is competing more against Steam machines than PS Pro.

The steam machines that utterly failed? A "premium" device can mean anything. And what makes you think the XB1 will be $300 next year? Probably 199-249$. People are way overestimating the price of the Scorpio, when in the truth the difference is by about 2 tflops. 1 year is a lot of time, and you can bet your ass that technology is going to get cheaper. The rate of technological advancement doubles every two years, and the pace at which things are getting more powerful is astounding (Moore's law). If the Scorpio is $500, it'll probably have 8-10tflops of power vs 6.

I can honestly see them charging upwards of $600 to make the "it's a premium console" argument.
