This is how they both (MS AND Sony) want it.

No. Mr House explicitly said that the PS4 Pro is not a blurring of the generations!

PR spin. There's no way it's not a blurring of generations. Sony wants to keep the narrative this way because this gen is going well for them, that's the only reason.

They either are going to have to respond to Scorpio or accept that MS will have superior third party multiplats again and will start gaining traction with hardcore gamers because of that.

You bet your ass MS is going to yell loudly at every press event, every TV commercial, etc. etc. that XBox Scorpio has the best version of COD and GTAVI, the best graphics, the best 4K performance, the only place to play 4K BluRays, etc. Look at how quickly they've already jumped on PS4 Pro not playing 4K UHD discs, they're already making it a giant bullet point.

And once Sony repsonds, then Microsoft will respond back. It'll become a never ending cycle.

This probably the new normal.

PS4 Pro - 2016
XBox Scorpio - 2017
PS5 - 2019
XBox Next - 2020

PS5 Pro - 2022

3 year intervals for both with the two in different years.

With that though, it almost assures Xbox consoles are always stronger

Sony doesn't need to do anything tbh, they are dominating this gen.

Scorpio won't change anything, imo it's going to slow down their sales even more.

2016 - PS4 Pro
2017 - XBox Scorpio, Nintendo NX
2018 - Nothing
2019 - PS5
2020 - XBox Better Than PS5, Nintendo NX Pro
2021 - Nada
2022 - PS5 Pro, Nintendo NX Mini
2023 - XBox Better Than PS5 Pro

etc. etc. etc. etc.

It'll never end, just watch.

Pretty sure that's the lesson MS learned this gen. They cannot be weaker than the Playstation and expect to get the "dudebros" multiplat gamer. They need to always be a step ahead. They may even go one further and make the Scorpio a modular console where the the chipset/RAM can be upgraded in a simple plug n' play way.

Why would they cut an incredibly successful console's life short? Unless they change their rhetoric, Scorpio is still just a mid-gen resolution booster like the Pro. We should get the PS5 in 2019 anyway.

Is Scorpio really a "mid-gen" refresh?

1.3 TFLOP to 6+ TFLOP is the same jump as XBox 360 (250 GFLOP) to XBox One (1.3 TFLOP).

It's basically a generational leap in GPU tech anyway. Even the PS4 Pro is a bigger jump than I would have expected.

A "mid-gen" refresh should be like what the Wii was to the GameCube ... a moderate upgrade. Not a practical full generational leap in GPU and a new CPU and probably new RAM to boot, lol.

Some like to say Sony gets "arrogant" when they're on top, and will try to make a case with the pro's features/lack thereof...but reality is Sony is playing with house money, and enjoy a 1 yr headstart to boot. Whatever MS does in '17, even if its an upgradeable console, will be answered with PS5 in 2019 at the latest.

Why would they need to release the PS5 to compete with Scorpio? MS has said themselves that the Scorpio is meant for people that want a higher end device, I'm sure they don't expect the Scorpio to sell boat loads. (It's basically an enthusiast console)
