The XBOS feels like a Pro + a Slim + a 4K blu-ray drive for $300.

I don't see where the comparison is at all. MS won this on by a mile. It doesn't matter that Scorpio is out next year. XBOS is out now and essentially already does what the Pro does for $100 less. Scorpio will come out next year and do more. Pro isn't even remotely powerful enough to make a marketable difference over the XBOS, let alone the PS4/Slim.

If you have a 4K TV, HDR, and are looking for a new console this holiday, I don't see why anyone would pick a PS4 product over the XBOS. It's cheaper, smaller, plays games in "4K," uses HDR, plus it plays 4K Blu-Rays which neither SP products do.

Also, stop talking about PC like it's a factor in console affairs. When it comes to consoles, PC doesn't matter. There's no "if you want a premium console, you'll just get a PC." If you want a premium console, you'd have gotten a PS4 because PC is irrelevant to console gamers. Scorpio will appeal to a huge audience of people who want a powerful console but don't want the inconveniences of PC, and that's more than enough to sell it.

Ok maybe that was a bad example but we're talking about premium models here. Gaming aside, there's people out there that spent hundreds on their TV sets and when they find out what the superior choice is they will never pick a subpar media player.

So you think the difference between the "physical" media and the digital media is so vast - that people should pass up a VIDEO GAME console for it?

That how "physical media" looks in comparison is so important that it should be the most important thing when dealing with a video game console? People should pass up on all ps4s, their exclusives, vr, etc - because the look of the media is different between digital and physical?

And I agree people won't choose a "subpar media player." People aren't going to spend a ton of money on a 4K TV - then bargain shop for the cheapest 4K player.... which is why including a 4k player in the ps4 would have done nothing.

If people are going to go premium TV - they will want a premium player, not the cheapest one they can find.

Actually the XBox One S 4K BR playback is apparently very, very good, it's one of the best players on the market apparently (keep in mind 4K Blu-Ray players can run $700 alone):

The average person doesn't buy BRs let alone 4K ones. The are film enthusiasts out there that like buying films, but they will still have the BR option.

Maybe Sony will patch the system with a 4K upscaler for movies.

There isn't actually a store in my town here which sells them, I'm sure I'd be massively upset if a single place sold the media and the system couldn't play it, but indeed if I'm getting video content its streamed on my BB line direct to the PS4, could throw the drive away and wouldn't impact the system much for me (other than make the price more appealing)

Also what battle is the title talking about, one is a system which launches in 2 months the other is a concept cgi footage being talked about for over a year away, there is no battle between these systems.

Yea but none of them really say that the image quailty is bad or anything. Infact, most of them say that the image quailty is stunning... So idk where you got that from? Yea they say its the cheapest but they don't say that the image quality is bad or anything...

From your first link's review:

"The console shows off the advantages of 4K: remarkable clarity, minute details and lifelike textures. I could make out the consistency of the motor oil Charlize Theron smears across her face as war paint.

You also get a noticeably higher dynamic range. It isn't just about fierce bright areas and inky blacks: the fine increments between are subtly drawn too, and you get plenty of shadow detail. You also get the wider colour gamut that HDR promises. There's a part in Mad Max: Fury Road where somebody gets shot with a flare gun. When the reddish-orange smoke explodes, it's hard not to marvel.

From your second link:

"On the Xbox One S you get the full Ultra HD and HDR experience. The visuals from those top-spec TVs are stunning. Sure the top spec Panasonic UHD Blu-ray player might just edge things out in terms of absolute picture quality, but as so much is governed by the performance of the TV it's attached to, we think most will find themselves entranced by the richness and detail that Ultra HD Blu-ray offers from the Xbox One S."

And the third one just says its a great value and doesn't really say anything about the quality. Yea they are saying that the Panasonic one is better but it only "Edges" out which isn't exactly saying that the X1 Slim is bad...

The TVs that I have looked at, the Samsung one seems to review one of the highest. So which TV do you suggest I get?

Sorry about the late reply btw, I was driving T_T

I could not find the artcile I read that did a point-point comparison of the 3 major 4K Blu-Ray players out there so I used a few form google that directed towards my point. The difference in picture quality may have been exaggerated a bit by me due to past experiences between Blu-Ray and DVD players when comparing the Console verisons to stand-alones. Even with that said though, the differences seen are based strictly on how good you display is.

I have 2 suggestions for TV's for each type, LCD side and one OLED.

$2.5K Curved OLED: https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-OLED55B6P-55-Inch-Ultra/dp/B01CDF9S1G/

$2.3K Flat OLED: https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-55EF9500-55-Inch-Ultra/dp/B010RWWQF2

$1.3K LCD: https://www.vizio.com/tvs/pseries/p55c1.html

$1.6K LCD:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A5LUBJS/ref=twister_B01ASYSN42?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Here is a link to a great site that has impartial reviews and grading on many different aspects of a display: http://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality

Be wary of the User Ratings that come up on this site though, they are very colored to the users.

Edit: I am a huge fan of Samung TV's and their HD TV's are some of the best around but I am dissapointed with their recent 4K/UHD offerings.

Not that most of that matters. Fact is, Sony is winning, meaning they have a bigger installed base for online, meaning people wanting to play with their friends will have to by a PS4.

Like me. I'm probably getting a Pro. Don't care about physical media, so the blu-ray thing is like arguing why a TV doesn't have a VHS player built in. I'm way passed that.

As a TV salesman, I can confirm that they actually do. They come in planning to blow their whole load on the best TV they can afford, and then have no idea how to get the content. It's a good thing most 4K TVs support external storage. You can literally just download everything into an external harddrive and run it straight into the TV via USB 3.0

Very true. My parents bought the stupidly expensive first generation of Samsung curved 4K TVs but still watch SD channels even when there's a HD option.

Depends on whether it's a sprint or a marathon. The Scorpio can't run the former, but I am pretty sure it will be able to run the latter while snoring...

That would be dangerous. It would probably fall into a pit. I mean that would be a REALLY long race to have to run snoring.

Unless you mean snoring while awake? Can you snore while awake?

There are no pits on a race track!

The marathon is already on and PS4 is half of the way already ahead. If Xbox can't sprint it already lost.

Marathons don't last 4 years. They last 20.

At any rate, this is bogus if the Scorpio isn't powerful enough to withstand the test of time and we can't be sure if it will. At some point Sony will create a PS5 and need to take a breather. That's when the Scorpio can strike by not needing to upgrade itself and weathering next gen on its own.

Whether it can do that remains to be seen.

My parents in a nutshell. Me and my siblings can't still get them to start using Netflix!

Except it doesn't actually play games in higher resolutions and has no exclusives.
