Forums - Gaming - $400 PC VS PS4 Pro

Depends on your needs and etc. If you look at the benefits of PC and the disadvantages of them and the disadvantages scare you away, get a ps4 Neo.

$400 PC will not have the same performance as the Ps4 Pro but having a computer has its advantages such as doing other things in addition to being able to play games.

So if you just want to play games, get the pro. If you have to do other things and can't afford both (and don't already have a computer), get a PC.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Get a PS4 Pro, doubt a 400 PC will come close to it.

This.

If your asking the question, that means you are not a PC custom gamer. To begin with, you would be spending like 100 on just a tower, let alone needing power supply, and HDD. You would be near $400 to future proof your system before you even buy basically even one aspect that people brag about for specs.

Get the PS4. Comparing $400 for a PC is a troll topic.

The last time I ever got a traditional PC was back in '05/06(I forgot when). Didn't think I'm trolling just because I'm an idiot when it comes to making PC's/evaluating them.

Also, why are towers so expensive? I get the HDD, power supply, and all the other things needed would cost a lot. But the tower?

You probably could get one for $30 or something, but if your going to want a future proof pc, or upgradable one. You know something you keep putting new cards in, upgrading ram, ect for years to come. Would you not want a cool looking tower? Plus the higher priced ones would have better cooling, and if your putting in expensive parts, don't you want to protect them from overheating?

You sure as heck wouldn't want something looking as ugly as the PS4 Pro. Lol, I laughed when I saw that thing.

But otherwise, I think power supply could be $50+, maybe $100+ can't recall. Again something that will last as long as tower, so worth it. You need keyboard and mouse. They can set you back anywhere from $30-200 depending on quality/type. If you aren't hooking up to TV, you need Monitor(s) and speakers. You need some SSD's

That is a lot of start up, before you even get to ram, graphics card, motherboard and processor.

nah you can buy a cheap tower for $30, you can buy cheap parts too but tbh a $400 pc is not good enough for the future, $600 is the minimum for a good pc imho.

Here is a 435$ pc that will take a dump over the Ps4 pro. I seriously hate this console gen so much all of them suck I switched in 2014 I suggest you make the jump you wont regret it

Damn son, look at that rig! It can run both Uncharted and GT Sports at 60fps and 4k.

OT: dont fall for posts like this. If you want to get it why PC gaming is special get ready to pay 1000$ or more, otherwise go with a console. Thats the sour truth that the wast ajority of PC gamers simply do not want to accept. If you have money for both, go for both, but I guess thats not the case.

I see no mouse, keyboard, or OS. I don't see a drive (blu/dvd/4k) or a controller.

Seems quite minimum.

that cpu is atrocious for this generations of games. if he's going to buy a cheap cpu should be a cheap Intel cpu.

just hate it when the seemingly well informed PC folk do shit like this. Ok. kindly tell him to add the case, keyboard, mouse, controller and an operating system. And even at that, talk like that just goes to show you either have no idea or have a bias when it comes to how consoles work.

Anyways to OP, this is kinda the generally unsaid thing.... It's impossible (unless you are a bargain hunter and searching for used parts) to at anytime build a PC that will have a better power to price ratio than a console. You can't build a PC that will outperform the PS4pro at $400. If you are really taking all that goes into a PC into consideration.

By their very nature, consoles will always just have or pose a better value for your money. If gaming is all you want. But if you are ready to get the pinnacle in performance and price is not an issue, then consoles will never touch PCs.

Read his name... and now forget everything he said
Im not saying you cant build a gaming PC off of $400 but I dont know if its for you. Consider the advantages of owning a PC, if those seem like enough to sway you over to building a PC then go for it. I would however say investing an extra $100 or so can go a long way. If not I'd honestly recommend a PS4 Slim over the Pro. Save yourself a $100 and go pick up some games. Not sure how much you spend on games each year but $100 can get you a decent amount if spent well.

To be fair, PCs does have its own exclusives so exclusives are dependent on the taste of the user...

Also to be fair, you don't actually need $1000 either... While I don't agree with toot's build cause he is really squeezing it and omiting some things, the GPU that the ps4 pro has is a downclocked 480 which DF used to test their benchmarks of the Pro. So an actual 480 would perform similar to the ps4 Pro with the exception of some unoptimized games. I would say a $600-$650 usd PC should be able take on a ps4 pro. But certainly not a $400 one.

And both have advantages/disadvantages.
