Agreed. Could have been a great age for sprites, instead got lot of really rough looking polygon games. Only generation I want every great game to remade is this one.

Nobody ever talks about it but Quake II is arguably the most impressive game on PS1. Looks and runs great for the hardware.

Spider-Man. It was incredible for the time. And it all was real time rendering, no pre-rendered background like RE or FF.

If we count pre-rendered graphics then FFIX has no rival, if we judge 3D only Vagrant Story was pretty impressive. As for the artstyle, the Crash Bandicoot series looked fantastic.
