Well, I gotta say, if you're patient enough that' s a smart way of doing it. There are def a fair share of games where it benefits to wait for games to lower in price as well as complete editions to release. I can't do it myself, as I am way too eager to play games I want to wait.

I only buy Nintendo games on day one. Never had to worry a second about bugs or something with Ninty.
Oh, and I also buy Elder Scrolls and Fallout day one. Might seem a little crazy, since it's basically the exact opposite of a Nintendo game with bugs like there's no tomorrow. But I just love Bethesda RPGs way too much, I can't wait for them. Also, they don't miss content on release. Sure, they get DLC, but the games are complete without that. Never played the Fallout 3 DLC for example and I don't feel like I missed something. I also didn't get a a single DLC for Fallout 4 yet.
Yeah, other than that, I don't mind waiting a little.

Same here, though #1 and 2 don't really apply to Nintendo games as they rarely get pricecuts and sale discounts (maybe a sale once a year?)
DLC packs are a thing but complete DLC bundles are really hard to come by especially with Amiibos..
Makes me wonder why I bother waiting :p

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]
Day one is a nono for me. Can't trust devs and publishers nowadays. That and the only way to avoid import taxes here is for the game to fall to $50 and below. lol
Back in the PS2 era, it was safe. Now? Not so much. In a world with day one patches, beta testing buggy games for free, DLC... it's all a bunch of horse shit imo.
The only games I buy now on day one are Nintendo games. Everything else is at least a month later. I let everyone else do the bug testing for me that way, when I do play it, it's totally fixed and running well.
Ok. Well, i mostly do that aswell.
What i do now is be very selective on what i get and get only that wich i know i will enjoy. I still make some mistakes as some series change and i might not enjoy the change, but it's been getting pretty spot on. To be fair i should do what you do more often. It usually depends on how much funds i got.
For example, i recently upgraded my PC and that means i am not willing to spend much money on console games for a while. I'm getting Deus Ex and AA6, but thats about it for the rest of the year. I'm still pondering FFXV or world of FF, but i'm gonna wait forreviews.
Also, that strategy doesn't work very well with Nintendo games. They are more likely to run out of stock than drop price.
I only buy 2 or 3 games a year on release, myself. Not many of them are worth the full price, and they drop in price so quickly. Uncharted 4 and No Man's Sky, are the only 2 for me, so far this year, on release.

| invetedlotus123 said: Hi! Since PS2 era I avoid buying games at release, and here are my reasons and I want to share them with you to see if I can find people that agree or diasgree with me.
1) Wait to get discounts. Yes, the main reason. If I wait I can get the games far cheaper than in release day, and I`m not talking about used copies, but brand new copies. Not necessarily I wait for a Greatest Hit Re-Issue, but one month or two makes wonders to games prices, mainly here in Brazil. 2) If it`s a game I know is going to be full of DLC I prefer to wait a release where all the content is included in a single purchase. I didn`t get GT5 right away for example, even it being one of the games that made me choose a PS3 at the time, but I waited the Edition that contained all the content on a single purchase, and it was worth it. I did the same with Street Fighter IV and RE 5. This gen I haven`t bought a PS4 yet, but when I do i`m going to have the benefit to be able to buy those "fuller" versions of the earlier games in the gen. 3) Quality Control. It kinda goes back to number one, but after some time I can see the feedback the early buyers give to said game( more reliable than professional reviews), and even if the game isn`t as good as I thought, at least I didn`t paid the full price for it. And after FF XIII being so disappointing for me I don`t even trust franchises names to make buy a game, i`m really hyped for FF XV, but I won`t be dropping coins on it until I know it`s good, and if it`s bad I`ll only buy it when it`s heavily discounted. |
Some of my reasons too, plus I have at least two more:
4) not enough time, and I make things worse trying to complete every subquest in big games like Morrowind GotYE, so my backlog is huge
5) trying to play some of the games (particularly RPGs) in my backlog in chronological order, I'm able to play a lot of them at max settings on a cheap, low-power consuming and quite silent PC. Next year I'll upgrade my PC for the Witchewr 3 and other games more recent than my current ones, but for now I'm still fine with a recent, but cheap passive cooled R7 250 and an old Athlon 64 X2 5050e.
