Back in the PS2 era, it was safe. Now? Not so much. In a world with day one patches, beta testing buggy games for free, DLC... it's all a bunch of horse shit imo.
The only games I buy now on day one are Nintendo games. Everything else is at least a month later. I let everyone else do the bug testing for me that way, when I do play it, it's totally fixed and running well.
