Forums - Sony - Time to sell PS4?

I suppose selling it before the announcement will give you the best price you can get since after the announcement, I suspect there might be a discount on ps4s.

But at the sametime... Its hard to tell what improvements the Neo will bring until the announcements so the value and risk is completely up to you

I doubt I'll buy a Neo at launch price.

I think you should rethink supporting a three year upgrade cycle and stick with the original console.

I think everyone can decide themselves for that. Shorter upgrade cycles are also not that different in investment if done right:

A buys a console for $400 and sticks with it for 6 years. After that time the console is worth shit and he buys a new one for $400. A paid $800 in total within 6 years.

B buys a console for $400 and sells it after 3 years for $200. Then he buys iteration 1 for $400 and sells it after another 3 years for $200. Then he buys iteration 2 for $400. At that point he also paid $800 in total within 6 years, but had 3 years the technical advantages of iteration 1.

How is this new PS4 going to be different?

Supposedly about 250% more powerful

Do you actually expect an answer to that?

Edit: personally I'll not sell my ps4 until I buy a neo.

Are you saying it is no different? I honestly have no idea it even existed and am really asking how it is different than the current system. This is the first I am hearing of it.

Hard to know if you're serious or not.

I see you spend a lot of time on this forum and you expect me to believe you never heard of the ps4 neo?  I'm sorry but I don't believe that.

Ps. Google will answer your question if you really care.

I think it makes sense that the second hand prices will drop a bit once the neo is officially revealed. I also think it will release sometime in October, so you maybe have to go a month or so without a PS4. However, it would suck if they release it sometime next year instead. Hopefully for you, that won't be the case.

Personally, I'm keeping my PS4 I got at launch. Still runs really well. I'm taking a wait and see approach with the Neo. I don't have an XB1 so the Scorpio looks interesting for next year instead.

Well if you enjoy owning the newest and best version's of things, you probably should sell it.

I think they will release it as quickly as possible because surely any news of a new PS4 would kill or hurt current sales and Sony won't want that. Didn't Sony announce & release both PS3 slims in short periods of time?

Yeah, you are right on that.

But I dont honestly see much improvement - I'm guessing this will likely be like what Nintendo did with the 3DS to n3DS.  It'll help a few games somewhat but wont be anything major in the long run - infact I think its mainly for the upcoming PSVR to run better rather than just to improve games.

I highly doubt they'll screw over 40 mil owners of the original PS4 by having them forced to purchase the upgraded version just to play the games at a decent framerate.

Idk about that, I bought a PS2 slim, PS3 Slim.... all for them jusg beinf smallee consoles.

This is the first time I'll be buying a console that is actually better than what I had in the same gen. So for me, as long as it has 4k anything and HDR that's good enough for me. Higher rez, better fps or more eye candy is a plus.

To OP, I've already sold mine. The dude I sold it to will pick it up around September 5th.

Places like Gamestop usually have trade-in bonuses when new consoles/iterations come out. I tend to trade-in my consoles for upgrades from there.

honestly. this upgrade model xbox and sony look to be doing just makes me want to get a gaming pc and be done with them
