Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo wants Zelda producer Aonuma to make a new IP

so The Legend of Sly Cooper: A Thief's End ?

but seriously this is good news, while I would have prefered to see the Zelda team/Aonuma's take on the Metroid games or StarTropics It's really exciting, I don't know why but I think this could end up in either a 3+ game made for everyone to enjoy or an extremely gritty realistic and dark game and, given Aonuma was behind Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess, I feel like it's gona be the latter...

Also, this really gives me hope for Nintendo working on new IPs, we were shure that the message reached out to Nintendo after Splatoon's astonishing success but we really didn't know how much they would have tried to make new IPs, now that we know that even Aonuma, the head of the Zelda team which works on one of the most succesfull series of Nintendo', was suggested to try something new I really can't wait to see what NX has to offer, but I just hope Nintendo doesn't forget about the Metroid game we've been asking for...

Majora's Mask was more of a Koizumi game and Twilight Princess was a response to all the criticism regarding Wind Waker's cel shaded artstyle. I don't think Aonuma would necessarily go for a very gritty realistic game.

If that will keep him away from Zelda, I'm all for it.

but the Zelda team (while he could work with another team I doubt that would happen ) has always been the one that pushed the hardware to it's limits within Nintendo teams, also I'm shure that after 2 games with a cartoony feel to them there's plenty of people in the team who want to work on something more mature, you can tell that Aonuma himself wants to, otherwise he wouldn't have picked a Thief as the possible protagonist of said game, he clearly is bored of telling tales of a Hero defeating a demon, so he decided to work on a anti-hero !

As a thief? You have my attention.
Anyway, about time.

I'm down, I'm sure whatever Aonuma cooks up will be great.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

So Aonuma wants to make Nintendo's answer to Uncharted? I'm down!

It would be great, and it would be also nice that new people brought new flesh to Zelda. As far as I know, many of the staff members of Breath of the Wild are young, so it would be interesting to see their conception of Zelda for future entries.

On the other hand, it could be good for Aonuma to work on something totally new before his retirement (well, at least if it happens in the short term).

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Maybe a stealth action game with a Gerudo as the heroine? How badass would that be?

The idea of Aonuma working on a new project is intoxicating. He's done so much amazing work on Zelda over the last 20 years. He's truly one of Nintendo's brightest stars.

Aonuma has said many times that he wanted to get a break from Zelda and do something else. Nintendo, ny allowing him to create a new IP manages to not only keep him happy and in Nintendo, but can also get a new franchise.

And if the game is fun and god, we'll be able to enjoy it.

It's a win-win-win for all sides involved.
