It's happening it will finish 5th this weekend and should drop two more spots next weekend. Should already loose a fair amount of theaters this week. I'm thinking this could be in discount theaters in about three weeks.

So how's the box office for ghostbusters?
Reviews don't matter for the company, cash is what matters. Just look at Transformers 4. Horrible movie, managed to get over 1 billion dollars.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

That's why it shouldn't even have been ghostbusters, it would have been a better movie and it wouldn't get so much hate. This is by the guy who made bridesmaids, spy, and the heat which were all rated R. This movie is the worst of all of those. |
Eh, I thought Bridesmaids was an insufferable movie. It more about hating people than funny. And oh, so much unfunny poop.
Bridesmaids seemed polarizing too. People either loved it or hated it. Not much in the middle.

90 million worldwide so far, 75 million domestic. It has quite a few more international markets to open in. The movie probably won't breakeven in the box office, especially factoring in marketing. Antihype probably limited the potential of the movie, and the positive reviews only rectify *so* much.

Well, that's decent. The budget was probably like 50 million for making the movie plus 50ish+ for advertising

Yup. Basically, it was waaaay overbudgeted. Though films have gotten sequels despite the original (or in this case, reboot) being unprofitable. It remains to be seen what Sony wants to do with the franchise.

Oh.
Well, that surprised me.

Franchise is probably dead (in movie form, maybe you'll get something small like a cartoon that'll mostly be watched by 30-year-old guys before get canned after season 2).
The movie isn't *that* bad, but it needed to be considerably better than Ghostbusters II to overcome the casting controversy and the stupidity (from all sides) related to that and it wasn't. It was only about Ghostbusters II tier.
If it's on TV sometime in the future or Netflix, I'll probably watch it again. It's better than Transformers, TMNT, GI Joe, or similar types of franchise properties.
But ah well. I enjoy Ghostbusters a lot but its very hard to make a sequel to the first film, it was just the right time and right mix of everything. Before people give this crew a hard time, you should remember that the same cast/crew/writers of the first film also fell way short with Ghostbusters II.
