Apparently Erdogan is on a plane to London after being rejected asylum by Germany

So is this a successful ousting or something?

Hopefully. I really hope they do whatever they are doing without any civilian casualties. Hopefully he won't do an Assad.

This is getting out of control quickly.

BBC says the military have taken power. Does that mean the coup was a success?

Tanks have opened fire near #Turkey's Parliament building in #Ankara. Gunfire at #Istanbul Airport.

FUCK! Please tell me its because they've succeeded...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

The BBC is literally at least 30 mins behind what is actually happening. I knew about the coup an hour before they even began reporting it. Useless

Bout the same time as that tweet there was reports of dozens of tanks advancing on the parliament building, which apparently have now opened fire.

It's not over yet. I'd say it probably will succeed though.

It happen frequently in the past. Even in your lifetime and those military coups in the past were not negative for us or the Turkish population. You had political powers who were growing in a very negative way that basically were fucking with some human rights.  Women rights/free media were all in danger in the past but returned thanks to military coups.  Maybe a Quick check up about other military coups and some reading about Ataturk and you probably don't see military coups so negative (atleast in Turkey).

I know all that.

I want Turkey to remain islamist so it's a guarantee it never can become a member of the EU.

We just struck a deal with Turkey about the Syrian refugees and restrict their passage into Europe. With a coup the floodgates might open again.

I don't like coups. They're illegal and undemocratic. Communist and socialists support coups. I do not.

Etc

Yeah I am not a fan of coups I just don't like the direction it was going. We already had the issue with the German comedian who had to shut up because he did an (horrible) song about Erdogan and in the Netherlands civilians with Turkish roots were applauding that Erdogan was giving a Dutch Turkish journalist house arrest because she dared to criticize Erdogan. Turkey with Erdogan has influence what is happening in Europe.
