Forums - Gaming - Some "console fans" just accepted that PC is the superior gaming platform.

Superior, yes (Graphic fidelity, FPS, etc.)

Affordable, maybe (Looking well above 400 for a decent gaming PC)

Accessible, not so much (If you want games to run without any hassle, get the right GPU and CPU, it's not something the average consumer is willing to do)

The average gamer do not want to fuck about piecing together a gaming PC and all the other stuff needed to get it up and running. People underestimate the value of convenience and working straight out the box which makes me laugh when I hear "but for the same price you can build a PC" blah blah blah!

PC gaming you take up 2 hobbies and I get that. Consoles is just about the gaming and the convenience of just plug it in and play is appealing to many.

Both have their strong and weak points.

Basically this

I also think that you can get more value from a console compared to the price of buying or building a new PC.

Wehn it comes to gaming I prefer a console for a number of reasons:

- never have to worry about 'compatibility' or to envy my friend's rig because it supports 'higher settings'

- ugrades are relatively few, mostly having to do with disk size (Microsoft of course, tries to nickel and dime their users to near-death but that's another story)

- PCs to me mean 'work' so consoles are clearly dedicated to entertainment

- PC's multi-purpose OS had a lot of overhead so you pay a lot more for hardware to match performance approaching a console's

- console games are highly optimized to work on that fixed cocnsole architecture

- no need to worry about malware

- no need to worry about hackers

If Microsoft wants to make their Xbox just another entertanment-semi-dedicated-low-end-gaming PC, then good luck with that. But it only means that MIcrosoft is getting out of the console business.

And, of course, anyone who doesn't care about inneficient OSes, hackers, malware, unoptimized games and the need to constantly upgrade hardware should go PC. THere's nothing wrong with that. Speaking for myself, I love Bloodborne sand the only way I would ever consider VR other than Google's cardboard box is through the relatively inexpensive, console-specific offer from Sony so that's that.

This seems to me to be a leap of logic.

Let's say that the Xbox platform > PC platform

For an Xbox gamer (Xbox platform + Xbox exclusives) > (PC platform + PC exclusives)

The case right now is adding the Xbox exclusives to the PC side. It would still be logical to say that

(PC platform + PC exclusives + Xbox exclusives) > (Xbox platform + Xbox exclusives)

so long as the benefit of having Xbox exclusives outweigh the detriments of using a PC. This case makes me think that it is possible to prefer a PC over and Xbox now while still considering Xbox to be a superior gaming platform. If you really wanted to solely compare the two platforms you need a case where Xbox and PC all have the same games.

tldr: you can't really compare the platfroms now because Xbox does not have all PC exclusives.

Most people complaining don't sound like they ever had interest in Xbox One to begin with

Seriously, just buy the one you want. Really as simple as that.

We'll see over the coming months what kind of impact this will have on Xbox console sales, THEN we can make bold statements about the consequences.

By denouncing that buying a Xbox One is pointless if Microsoft's exclusives are shared with PC. This stance implies that the only reason to own consoles over PCs is because of exclusives, otherwise this whole backlash against Xbox Play Anywhere would be nonexistent. This stance also ignore price point and consumer friendliness so, It seems, exclusives is what it comes down to, and thats truth for fans of all consoles since Microsoft fans aren't alone when critzicing this move.

How does this proves "console fans" just accepted that PC is the best gaming platform? Well, if you take out exclusives, as Microsoft just did with the Xbox One, then, according to those against this move, there is no point in owning a console such as the Xbox One. In other words, all things being equal it would be pointless to buy a console. Simple.

This doesn't apply to all console gamers, but only to those who are against the prospect of console exclusives being available on PC. Because if there was any real advantage to consoles besides exclusives then... Why be so reprehensive of these exclusives finding their way to PC?

I think the real stance is "No point in owning an XB1 and a PS4/PC". I'm sure there are still reasons to own an Xbox One in addition to a PS4 or PC, but the advantages as far as game coverage are minimal.

My thought process, personally, is a PS4 has many more games than Xbox One (plus a number of exclusives), and what games I can't get on PS4 I can get on PC (along with an entirely different set of preferred genre on PC for exclusives, like RTS and MOBA). Yes, the whole Xbox One games on PC isn't 100% yet, and I'm the first one to argue that PC from the couch doesn't feel right... But if we're talking about raw game coverage, the purpose of the Xbox One is greatly diminished (to me).

If someone gave me an Xbox One, would I keep it? Yeah. Would I play it? Maybe sometimes. But if I'm talking about spending money on something, I would prefer to build another PC, get a gaming laptop, or maybe even grab the L2/R2 grip for my Vita so remote play feels better. At this point in time, I feel validated in my ownership of my PS4, PC, Wii U, and 3DS due to the variety of games I can get on them. Not so much in my Vita, despite spending most of my time playing PS1 and PS4 ports on it. And I feel buying an Xbox One at this point in time would be an absolute waste of my money. I'm better off just buying a wireless Windows controller for my PC.

At first this sounds like a huge spin on things, but then again, people have really said that, and this seems like a pretty valid conclusion. Superior is a strong word so it sounds pretty extreme, but technically it's probably correct.

This is actually pretty amusing. Somewhat problematic, but still amusing.

Not sure why the thread this is most likely a response to was closed, yet this remains open, when we could have had this same discussion within the original. Oh well, I suppose.

@ OP

In terms of graphics, if you have the money to buy a good GPU, then yes, PC will always be superior. The recent $199 RX480 does make it more affordable to do so. But, the biggest draws to consoles are ease of use, affordability (sometimes console manufacturers forget this one ) AND exclusives you can only get on that console. Take away one of the bigger draws, exclusives, and you can see some potential consumers overlook the other two (Scorpio may not have affordability on its side, either) in favor of PC gaming, or possibly just getting a different console.

Are all gamers going to do so? Of course not. Nor did anyone imply it. It just takes the incentive to purchase a Xbox console down a few notches where fewer consumers will see it a gaming necessity. A good excercise is to imagine the NES never getting Mario Bros., or SNES launching without Super Mario World, or Genesis wasn't later bundled with Sonic. Would they have sold as well? Hell no. If they only had weak ports of PC games, with poorer controls, those consoles would not have defined gaming in the rebirth of the industry.

Depends entirely on how smart you want to be with your money.

Personally by the share fact that Consoles might end up with yearly upgrades, it's better to start with Pc now, the more who buy the more support Pc will get, the corporations will go where the consumers go.
