One could indeed theorize that. But we could also theorize that without their help, games Skyward Sword, Splatoon, and Pikmin 3 could taken even longer to come out. As painful as the wait for XCX was, (exacerbated by the absurd 9 month wait from its Japanese release to its Western release, which was kind of out of Monolith's hands and down to just bad management by Nintendo proper) I'd say any setbacks caused by their work on other titles was worth it if it meant multiple other games arrived sooner.

I certainly agree with your overall point, it just seemed as though your last post was implying that helping out with other games wont take away from thier own releases.

That wasn't my intent. What I meant was more that their next game is a long way off anyway, so in the here and now, their efforts are probably better spent on making sure Breath of the Wind is as good as possible and doesn't get a third delay.

In the end, even if Monolith games don't make great returns (well, I assume), the studio has been really helpful for Nintendo's new delopment duties. That's good.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I understand and agree

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I'd interpret that as bad news since it takes away time from the development of their own game ...

Monolith Soft isn't even the masters in crafting open world when their known for making sub-par side content or the too big for it's own good level design ...

Sweet! Monolith Soft's expertise might really help liven up the open-world feel of Zelda.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

10GB downloadable data packs incoming.

It's doubtful Monolithsoft would be giving up resources that they require for the next Xenoblade game. Gaming development occurs in stages, and it's usually not the case that everyone involved is working on the same game at the same time. Planning has to come before design, design has to come before art and code, and art and code have to come before implementation, and implementation has to come before quality assurance. So naturally, there are going to be points in the development process where not everyone is going to have tasks to do.

In addition, people learn. Working with Nintendo's flagship Legend of Zelda team is going to be HIGHLY beneficial to any developer.

Couldnt it be argued that working on Skyward Sword & Pikmin 3 is what caused Monolith Soft to take 5 years between Xenoblade & Xenoblade X?

Those were devs from Monolith Soft's Kyoto studio, it's a different dev team.

This is why I think Nintendo is very smart and efficient the way they use their development teams. They keep their employees gainfully employed simply because they are versatile enough to help out on whatever Nintendo is currently working on.
