Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie on NX: "For us it's not about specs"

If that's the case Reggie then you can kiss that third party support goodbye already, just like it happened with the Wii U.

I am a Nintendo fan and I dont want them to leave the console business. If that means they have to give us great games that doesnt look as good as their competitors, then so be it.

Yeah I'm in the same boat tbh, other companies create great games and I'll settle for them providing technical marvels while Nintendo can continue bringing games like BOTW. There's no way to compete with MS and Sony in a hardware brawl.

To be honest I think an alliance between Nintendo + MS wouldn't be so bad. There's no room for three game consoles, so two of the three have to join sooner or later or one of the three has to leave.

In an alliance with MS, Nintendo could retain a lot of the things they enjoy as a hardware maker, like design input, possibly even a cut of hardware profits and licensing fees.

If you look at MS, they really don't even have a strong 1st/2nd party anymore, Nintendo could step right in.

Having Nintendo games exclusive to XBox and Windows PC would give MS a monstrous edge over other Sony and Steam as MS would likely have all the third party support to go with it, they would have the best software ecosystem overnight.

That's laughable. More so since a region were Nintendo is really the only main player in the console space (Japan) is buying Xbox Ones at a rate of about 50 a week. Nintendo aren't so dumb as to partner up with someone that won't benefit them.

That's probably a plus for Nintendo, since they can pick up the slack in Japan, US/UK are their weakest markets, which are the strongest markets for MS.

It goes beyond that though. Simply slapping Animal Crossing, Mario or Pokémon on an Xbox isnt going to make it sell 3DS numbers in Japan. Likewise, it probably isn't going to do anything for them in the West either. I just don't see the kinds of games Nintendo makes selling a whole lot on other platforms (except for mobile).

So what you are saying is Nintendo should go third party on mobile devices, in which case I agree, if they ever go third party, only go mobile.

Which is why it would be preferable to Nintendo possibly to enter an alliance with MS rather than by a generic 3rd party. In a partnership they could still have some design control over hardware and be able to shape things more to their liking, perhaps even keep a slice of hardware/software licensing fees.

Nintendo fans would buy it because it would in effect be a Nintendo console ... just with a ton of third party support and Halo + Forza + Killer Instinct + other Rare games.

Wouldn't be a bad fit, MS is strong where Nintendo is weak and vice versa, and MS really doesn't seem that interested in actually running a game division in the 1st/2nd party sense ... they seem to just want to create the hardware and ecosystem ... well that fits well with Nintendo because Nintendo doesn't seem to give much of a shit about creating the hardware or ecosystem per se but focusing on innovation through games/controllers.

If MS threw in some nice money hats to go with it ... wouldn't be a bad fit for Nintendo. They'd still be "special" and above other third parties, which I think is important to them. If NX flops, they don't want to be reduced to being just another third party.

I would rather have this than Nintendo going all mobile. Thats for damn sure.

It's about the content? What content?

Maybe I misunderstood you, I thought you were coming from the angle of Nintendo just throwing their games on the Xbox platform. But if they actually partnered (key word: partnered) with MS, or Sony, and developed the hardware together (so both sides knew how it worked from the inside out) then I think that would be a great scenario. Couple that with mobile for Japan (and the rest of the world in general) it could be a pretty good deal for them.

Nintendo needs Polaris 11. It matches everything they do. Low wattage, 2.5 TFs, and a good price. And if previous 'leaks' are true NX is hovering around 12GB of RAM. It'll be quite a potent little box for what it does. They just gotta price it right. Use a regular controller and sell it for $199 and you got a instant seller that is powerful enough to last a few years.

Then release the SCD and NX will be around for a long time.

I'm sure MS wouldn't really even have much of a problem taking into account some of Nintendo's wants, but hardware these days is largely just PC components anyway, I'm sure Nintendo even knows that.

One thing MS could really do to sweeten the pot is allow Nintendo to have their logo on the system itself (along with the MS logo if they want). Not a big deal, but I think for Nintendo they would like that. Nintendo could also handle distribution/sales of the machine in Japan.

Hell, Nintendo could just sell their own XBox with its own Nintendo controller ... you look at where the XBox brand is going, that really wouldn't be unheard of since XBox seems to becoming more of like a standardized format like DVD or Blu-Ray with multiple hardware form factors.

All those types of things I could see MS agreeing to, I don't think MS really gives a crap about any of that stuff anyway.

It could be a good fit if the NX doesn't work out.
