Forums - Sales - The Wii does not = , > the PS2,PS3,360 because they are NOT THE SAME!!

all the comparisons are fair, since ALL consoles are made for the same purpose: FUN
and also, there are all, game (or entertainment) machines, so we can compare which machine is the most fun for us!!

LoL, i know it sounds stupid, but it's like most people took it too seriously...

also, you can't say that, just because Nintendo is a lot smarter than Sony/Microsoft, showing everyone a different way of entertainment, who said that entertainment is only for 12-god knows aged males??

Do you have a PS3? If you do, why the hell did you buy it? Don't you do research on products before you buy them? I'm sorry but there is no one to blame but yourself. The PS3 didn't fail, you did.

I have a PS3 and a 360. I will be playing games like Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Gears of War 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Fable 2, Final Fantasy 13 and Versus, and White Knight Story. Will I have time for games like Monster Hunter, or Fatal Frame? No.

No-one said that there weren't any good games (coming) on PS360, but it's a bit ignorant to ignore the importance of Monster Hunter in Japan.
It's a fact that software sells consoles and the other way around. Monster Hunter and Fatal Frame are only the beginning.

You say: I'll be playing FF13, but you sound like someone that only buys the very popular games (aka casual) while someone that likes Suikoden or Tales will be very pissed it won't come to PS3.

You say Zen should have done research, but a lot of people blindly expected the PS3 to be this gens PS2, with all the JRPG's. The bad sales will prevent the PS3 from having a broad library of games. Sure the mega-games you stated are coming, but a lot of hardcore gamers love more niche games, that are simply not economic to make on PS3.

Why isnt this locked yet.

THIS IS NOT A THREAD ABOUT SALES!

This is the sales board, we discuss factual numbers here.

NOT personal opinion on what you think this and that console caters to. Take this nonsense to the Gaming board.

The GC was $100 cheaper than PS2 and Xbox, therefore it was in its own market. Therefore, GameCube won last generation!

At least Nintendo actually made profit on the GC, PS3 and 360 have both been huge moneysinks all generation so far.

The mods like watching you squirm.

Besides, when a discussion has sales at the core of it or is attempting to prove that sales should not be the core of it, it likely belongs in the sales forum.

Yay GameCube WON!!!!

In my heart I knew it all along, nice to see the confirmation.

Actually I think it's totally true that the Wii is in a totally separate market than PS3 and 360. It's a market they're both trying desperately to get into, and it's called SOLD OUT!

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

Currently wrapped up in: Half Life, Portal, and User Created Source Mods
Games I want: (Wii)Mario Kart, Okami, Bully, Conduit,  No More Heroes 2 (GC) Eternal Darkness, Killer7, (PS2) Ico, God of War1&2, Legacy of Kain: SR2&Defiance

My Prediction: Wii will be achieve 48% market share by the end of 2008, and will achieve 50% by the end of june of 09. Prediction Failed.

Explanation. My twin brothers name is Josh Myers, my name is Justin Myers. I (Justin Myers) was posting, after I hit the post button, the post came under My brothers User Name, not mine. So, I deleted half of the post, posted that under my brothers name, Logged in on my profile (SlumsofOhio) and posted the rest. I hope you can understand.

I understand the importance of Monster Hunter in Japan. But don't you see the PS3 owners who bought the PS3 just for Monster Hunter (I doubt there were many) just saving up money to buy the wii when MH3 comes out? And, to be honest, those who like those games may get pissed off, but more than likely they shrug (I don't know if I spelled it right) it off once the more popular games come out. I mean, how many PS3 owners bought the system just for games like Fatal Frame or other small third party titles? Not enough to warrant people to trade in their consoles in record numbers.

As for the other bolded part. By no means am I being a dick to Zen, but had he researched what the PS3 would have offered and decided to wait until there were games he would have liked, He could have saved a boat load, just from the price cuts.

Considering the alternatives, I don't think hardcore gamers have much of a choice when it comes to not owning a Wii. You can play a non-dependable console, a console with mediocre multiplats and very few AAA games, or a console with some really great AAAexclusives from Intelligent Systems and other Nintendo developers.

How could a "hardcore" gamer justify not owning a Wii.

I consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer. I will probably never own a Wii. I've owned an NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Gameboy, and the DS. I used to be a huge fan of Nintendo. When the Revolution/Wii was announced, I was excited about all the possibilities. Then I got to try out the Wii and was left thoroughly unimpressed by everything about it, except for the nice compact size of it.

You should buy it for Fire Emblem, if you were a fan of Path of Radiance. It's got some high quality games, so don't get caught up in the idealism about the Wii, that being a PS3 owner in todays modern gaming forums will force you into, more often than not. If you liked the gamecube, the Wii is better.

The problem I have with the Wii is 2 fold.  The first is that the controls for the most part either a) suck ass, or b) don't take any advantage of the Wii's motion controls at all.  Almost all of the games can be played just as well with a regular gamepad.  And in most cases I prefer the gamepad.  The controls for Metroid Prime 3 sucked.  I hated them and preferred the original's controls.  I was a huge fan of the first MP game, and the third was so disappointing.  I borrowed a friend's Wii by the way, so I have spent a pretty good amount of time with a lot of Wii games.  I also thought the Wiimote controls for SMG felt tacked on.  Pointing at stars to collect them?  Hardly game changing or innovative.  Shaking the Wiimote to do a spin attack/activate stars?  How is that different from just pushing a button?  I could go on and on about every Wii game, and I've actually played a lot of them.  The only 2 games I felt played really well with the Wii controls are MOHH2 and RE4.  I just do NOT like the Wiimote and most games feel gimmicky incorporating them into their gameplay.  Maybe this will change in the future, but for now, I can't see anything special about it.

The second problem I have are the graphics.  Yes, it's a secondary concern.  The controls don't do it for me.  I'm not paying $250 for a console with marginally better graphics than the original GC.  Nintendo chose to concentrate their R&D money on the controls.  Good for them.  I don't like them, and all I'm left with is a console that doesn't appear much more advanced than it's predecessor.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think Wii games look bad at all.  I still play PS2 games, which for the most part, look considerably worse than Wii games.  But I want to feel like I got my money's worth out of the $250 the Wii goes for.  And I just don't at the moment.

On a side note, I've also grown a little tired of Nintendo's main franchises.  I could really care less about Mario Kart coming out.  I've enjoyed all of them up til now, but my interest has sputtered a lot recently.  SMG wasn't that great IMO.  The only part I really liked were the 2D parts where the gravity would change.  I didn't like the more focused approach and controls of Metroid Prime 3.  I enjoyed the solitude of being on a planet alone, with little information about what was going on, and getting the story through scanning terminals.  I didn't need cutscenes and voiceacting to make the game enjoyable.  Even Zelda doesn't hold my attention for long.  I've liked all of them, even Wind Waker (at least until the part where you have to collect the 8 shards), but now I've grown sort of tired with Zelda games.  Especially after playing the excellent Shadow of the Colossus, which ranks very highly on my list of action/adventure games.

Maybe I will get a Wii at some point in the future.  If they can reduce the price (maybe $150), and get out some more interesting AAA titles, I'd be tempted.  I probably won't as I only got 1 console each generation in the past, and there will be plenty of PS2 (hurray for 60 GB PS3)/PS3 games to keep me busy until the next generation of consoles come out.

Is it me or are all Sasuke fans pro-sony and hate nintendo??
